I have been hunting with a shotgun for 27 years and my Remington’s have never let me down. I have had a lot of shotguns over the years and I like the Remington’s the best. Reliability, durability, and ,quality are what you get when you buy a Remington.

They will both kill at medium range (30 yards). If you use it for defense, it will make a mess at close range so think about the carpet. The Mossberg may be a few ounces lighter than the 870. Both are tried and true. You won’t go wrong with either

Remington 870. Very reliable.

Comes down to personal preference, both very good, but I like the 870.

I consider the Remington 870 the best all-around-shotgun. That’s the one I’d get. I already own two.

Both are good guns…….my preference is the 870 but, either is fine…..for the job.

I like the 870 and have thought about buying one however, I don’t like the slide release switch and it’s location (In front of the trigger guard, you can’t remain in the shooting position and operate the switch)
So I began looking at other models, I like the mossberg 590. Check it out.

I bought myself a mossberg 535 with a bird/deer barrel combo for $400 three weeks ago, it’s a beautiful gun, i haven’t used it yet, but everyone says Mossbergs last a lifetime.
I would personally go for the mossberg 535 because it’s tapped and ready for the addtion of a scope, but if you were to buy a remington 870 you need to take it to a gun smith and have him tap it for you so you can put a scope on it.

Hunting?… Either one will do……
Home defense? – Only get a Mossberg for that……

I know budgets can be tight these days – but consider 2 shotguns…. One short barreled security shotgun for the house and a long barreled shotgun for hunting……
Mossberg offers a 12 guage pump that comes with 2 barrels…. Its a combo model…. Use the long barrel for hunting and when you get home – clean it and swap the short barrel on it…. Take a look!

The Mossberg is serviceable, the Remington is quite good, an Ithica would be my first choice.
