On a remington 870 express shotgun instead of filling the dimples inside the magazine chamber can i instead take a small drill and just drill the dimples off on each side to add the magazine extender?

don’t drill your magazine, it will weaken the integrity of the metal which could cause fracture while firing… basically destroying the shotgun.
Take it to a gunsmith and see if they can file out the dimples.
For the first answerer, some remington models have dimples inside the existing magazine which prevent the addition of mag extenders without gunsmithing first.

There is a extender made just for it…what size are you looking for?
If you have 18" barrel the 10 shot may be too long..if you have 24" or longer 10 shot will be ok. I have seen 7 shot mags work fine on 18" barrels without sticking out past the barrel….this would be a 2 shot extender.

I wouldnt drill them. I would take a dremel with a small size sanding barrel and grind them out.

I bought a genuine Remington extension and it went right on without doing anything, except putting it on and tightening one screw. If yours has the dimples, follow the instructions that come with the extension
