Using a shotgun against a bear would be a serious mistake. In Alaska, the minimum caliber allowed to be used in the field and against dangerous game such as bear is the .338 Winchester Magnum. A shotgun with 000 buck will do little more than tear off flesh. Bears are thick skinned and tough. A 12 gauge slug won’t even penetrate 4 inches. And a wounded bear is really terrifying. Much more likely to kill people.
Guns are fine in the hands of most people. The real problems arise in the hands of people that are denied legal possession or ownership. Ban weapons in the US, and you will only disarm the legal owners and further enable the illegally armed to employ them in crime.
Something I add. I am opposed to carrying concealed weapons. I believe the public has the right to see who is armed and have them under scutiny. Mainly, because if I detected a person with a concealed weapon I would likely consider them a potential criminal. Carried openly, I believe a person a legitimate owner and they will act accordingly.

No, I wouldn’t say so. You’d be better off asking an Alaskan or some one who has had to use a gun for defense though.

what does carrying shotguns for protection from moose and bears have to do with religion? why are you pairing the two?
alaska is a very different place than the majority of the US. if they are an open carry society, then they are. who cares? why make a point of it?
