Are you Excited about the up coming deer season?
I just got my deer permit in the mail, in my state we can use a shotgun, muzzle loader or handgun for the firearm season. I have been thinking about using a handgun. The only legal handguns are center fire revolvers or center fire single shots. 4 inch barrel minimum length. Any suggestions on a accurate hand gun?

Yes deer season is one of my favorit times of the year. There are only five thing in life that make me happy women, hunting, guns, and football!oops I forgot beer! I had a Ruger blackhawk in 44mag with a 6 1/2 inch barrel. It was a nice handgun for deer if you like single action revolvers.Only reason I got rid of it was I hunt close to my home 75% to 85% of the time and its shotgun only!

Smith & Wesson 29 or 629, or Ruger Redhawk, in .44 Magnum, 6 to 8 inch barrel. Hey, be careful out there.

T/C Encore / Contender in 44 mag.
Also Ruger Red/Black Hawks.
I myself use a Dan Wesson 44 mag.
Your state sounds alot like IL.

Yes I am excited about the WV upcoming deer seasons. Here in WV during our 2 week bucks only season we can use rifle, muzzleloader, shotgun or handgun. I have used a rifle during this season, but have thought about using my Ruger Blackhawk 357 magnum. This handgun can be used but you have to get your deer close just like during archery season, so you can make a humane kill.
There are a lot of different brands and calibers out there for handguns to use for deer hunting. Just make sure you can get something you can handle well. Practice and practice with it.

Get a .357 magnum revolver. I have a Colt King Cobra that I carry with me along with my rifle when I hunt. It is a very good gun. You can put a red dot scope on it and I’m sure it would be accurate past 50 yards if you are a good shot. The barrel is over 4 inches so it would be legal.

I agree the T/C, Dan Wesson, Smith 29 or the Ruger 44s are nice for deer. Although I have both the Super Redhawk and the Super Blackhawk 44 mags, I prefer the Super Blackhawk because of the nice trigger. And personally I would not want a barrel under 6 inches for such hunting and prefer the longer 7 1/2 in barrel. I also use 240 gr JHP for deer and reload my own with Hornady XTP bullets of that weight. It’s quite effective out to 60 yards after that the hollow point may not open well. So I keep all my shots under 50 yards with open target sights. I painted my sight with a dab of blaze orange paint so I can see them better in low light and in timber.
I have to say it takes a whole lot of practice to be able to reach a 100% kill rate with a magnum handgun. I suggest lots of range time or if you can lots of time shooting targets in the woods. This is where reloading saves quite a bit of cash. Handgun hunting is far different than shotgun or rifle hunting. I use a walking/shooting stick that has a padded Y rest on top that’s adjustable in height. If the deer is about 30 yards away I shoot it free hand, if its 40 yards or more I use the shooting stick to rest the barrel on.
I too am pumped for deer season and where I am in Alaska it starts in some places in August.
Good hunting!

I’m excited before last season even ends! Handgun hunting whitetails sounds really exciting-.38super 1911 should be a challenge (my state allows it). If I were to get a Revolver- Taurus Tracker .44mag hands down. It’s light, powerful, accurate, sturdy, cheap.

how about a muzzle loading handgun

Oh yeah, I’m excited, I won’t be on here as much as you can probably guess because I’ll be out chasing a big 10. In my state you can use bow and arrow (my personal favorite) spear, shotgun, rifle, handgun, or muzzleloader. The best part is, we can take 2 deer a day up to 3 bucks a year. One of the bucks has to be 4 points on one side, and you can only take one buck a day, but you can take a buck and a doe, or two does everyday. I plan on filling my freezer up this year. MmmmMmmm good!

It’s still too far away here in Oklahoma. Wal-Mart had some deer scent in this weekend, and I had to laugh. No one is going to buy that stuff over two months before bow season, and gun season isn’t until Thanksgiving week.

Its very exciting and an enjoyable experience .I just hate when people go kill like 4 deer at once.I mean talk about no consideration for the animals welfare.
