Best Home Defense Semi Auto Shotgun?

January 4th, 2010 by eranio

I’m looking for a good Home Defense Shotgun and I have my mind set on a few different Models and was wondering what you think of these and regardless what is YOUR choice for best Home Defense Shotgun of all, not just of mine?
Here are what I narrowed my chioces to, but I will look into all suggestions,
1)Remington Model 1100 TAC-4
2)HK / Fabarm 12Ga Tactical (pistol gripped)
3)Beretta 1201 FP (I would add the benelli pistol grip stock)

Any experts out there I would REALLY appreciate your help.

Additional Question
Do they make the Beretta new?? I didnt see it on their website.

If your looking for a semi auto shotgun, you might want consider the Saiga 12 gauge. it uses a detachable magazine. you can find 10 rounds mags for it pretty easily. The saiga was developed by kalishnikov, the same guy who invented the AK-47. It’s layout is very similar to that of an AK, it works reliably in a variety of conditions, like the AK. the cost about 500 dollars

To be honest I desise Remingtons, they are the cheapest made guns on earth as far as quality. I just never had good exsperiences with them.
However since you will only be using it for home defense that wont make much of a difference.

My home defense happens to be my Winchester SX3 that I will just put slugs in if someone ever came into my home.
I would suggest something that’s 20-12 gauge and has a very short barrel, you want to manuver it around pretty quickly.

You can’t go wrong with the Rem 1100.

The Franchi Model 48AL.* Use number 7-1/2 or 8 size bb shot for in Home, or Apartment use for indoor Self-defense shooting.*

If you really want a semi-automatic shotgun that will NEVER let you down, the only choice is a Saiga 12. Its basically an ak47 that shoots shotgun shells. Remington and Beretta make garbage for the most part and HK wants your first born for a gun that frankly isn’t much better than a gun half its price.

I’m also looking for a semi-auto shotgun for home defense. The two that I’ve narrowed my search to are the Remington 1100 TAC-2 with a traditional style stock or the FNH Self Loading Police Shotgun (SLP)http://www.fnhusa.com/le/products/firearms/model6.asp?fid=FNF005&gid=FNG002&mid=FNM0018 The FNH is about $300 more than the TAC-2 but man, it’s a nice shotgun.
