Best Shotgun for Skeet/ Home Defense?

I’m looking to get a shotgun for skeet shooting and home defense. (Don’t plan on hunting). I’m looking at a Mossberg 590 12 gauge. One of my big questions is what’s the diff for barrel length, I’ve heard shorter is better for defense. It seemed to me longer is better for distance but then I heard that the barrel length doesn’t really affect the ballistics that much when you skeet shooting?
Advice on make/model/barrel length?

Most skeet shooters like longer barrels because the extra weight makes the gun easier to aim and shoot. That same longer barrel makes it harder to maneuver inside your house in confined spaces. It also makes it easier for someone to wrestle the gun away from you.
I like the Remington 870. I have both 20 and 28 inch barrels for mine. The barrels can be changed in about 60 seconds.
Go get a skeet lesson. They’ll have you try different guns to see what fits you best and show you how barrel length affects how you swing the gun to the target. You might like the feel of the 24 inch barrel or you might prefer the 28 inch or the 30 inch. The only way to know is to try as many as you can.

shorter=more mobility.
longer=longer distance, heavier.
if ur usin it for defense, i say get a lighter one, cuz i doubt terrorist or gangs would go to you house aand you’d be out numbered.(lol)
