Best shotgun i can buy?
Ive been duck hunting for 5 years (since i was
and am considering buying my first shotgun. I will be using it for duck, turkey, pheasant, dove, and skeet. Im debating between a beneli nova remington 887 and a stevens 311. I will be hunting in sacramento valley so weather conditions will be mild. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, also if you know any cheap side by sides i would be great. thanks

Stevens 311 isn’t made new any more, so there actually should be a half way decent number of good condition ‘economy’ side by sides made for coast to coast, sears, JC Penny, etc
Cheapest new side-by-side that is worth mentioning is the CZ-bobwhite and CZ-ringneck, but we are talking $700-800
I’d take the Benelli Nova over the Remmy 887 personally, but both are good.

I can’t say about the nova but I have 2 H&K Super Black Eagles made by Benelli and I wouldn’t take anything in the world for them. I have heard that Benelli pump guns have horrible recoil though. As for the others I don’t know much about either.

any shotgun from Mossberg is excellent! i won one at a ducks unlimited thing i went to a few years back. i will never buy any shotgun that is not a Mossberg now.

A mossberg shotgun will do you great. I own a 835 and 500 both work great and will last you years, rem 870 will do just as great.

The Remington 887 or 870 wingmaster are both nice. The benelli nova i would pass, but the supernova is a great gun, it has recoil dampening available built in the stock. Great gun.
Stoeger makes some nice inexpensive O/U or side by side. I have several and like them a lot. The condor series is the O/U, and they are one of my favorites.

I have never hunted duck, phesant, or dove, however I have a .22, and use 50 grain hollow point bullets. I am not sure how well you shoot, but if you can aim well then I would recomend this gun. The bullets are cheap, the gun cheap but it will work. I have used it on turkeys, hogs, and squirals. It killed all of teh above easily, with one head shot.
