18 Years old —– If some store tells you they wont sell it to you because your not 21 then walk — Purchase one some place else….
Tactical shotgun?????…….. Most of that tactical stuff is complete nonsense….. Really….
Yes Remington, Benelli and Mossberg all market some of there shotguns as "tactical" but in realty its a lot of marketing to the video game crowds…..
If you want a short barrel, high capacity shotgun that’s reliable then get a Mossberg 500 or 590 shotgun… They are more reliable than the Remington 870… Here are the technical details why…..

Most of that tactical stuff like lazer pointers, collapsible folding stocks, pistol grips, flashlights, bayonets, and other sillyness is a waste of money and may get you killed… If some wahoo is home invading you and crashing thru the front doors then the last thing you need to be fumbling with is lazer pointer switches and side folder stocks getting caught on the drapes…..
Just get a plain, boring shotgun like this…..

If you ever get the chance — Look at a shotgun that’s mounted in a police car… They are usually a no nonsense model similar to the ones above…..

Sez who? Not long ago, any AR’s sold in Pennsylvania were treated as handguns, too. The State Police like to make up their own rules it seems. You let me know where this happened, and I’ll get our group on it right now. Pennsylvania—–long guns (including tactical shotguns) 18 years of age; handguns at 21. Get back to me right away. Our website is http://www.foac-pac.org If you’re a gun owner in Pennsylvania, its worth 10 bucks to join.
Edit:
By now the asker has received a full and complete report from me and from Firearm Owners Against Crime, detailing the BATFE rules for purchase of shotguns with pistol grips. I’m happy to have been able to help him out. Its pretty sad when you can go to war for your country at 18, but can’t buy a pistol grip shotgun such as a Mossberg JIC until you’re 21.

As long as it’s not a class III implement, ANY longarm is legal to own at 18 years of age, hell, even before if you don’t live in a communist state (possession laws).
Whoever told you that is wrong. Now go buy it.

Buy you a shotgun if you have had a hunters safety class you are legal.

As long as the shotgun has at least a 18 inch barrel and at least a 26 inch over all length and doesn’t function automatically your of legal age to buy it.
