Can I use Remington 870 Express Super Magnum Turkey Camo shotgun for skeet?

January 3rd, 2010 by eranio

What kind of choke tube does this gun come with? Can I use this shotgun for shooting clay birds and/or skeet without buying extra choke tubes? (I will use this gun to hunt turkey and other birds, but before going out to hunt, I want to practice on moving targets)

You can certainly use it. I would highly recommend that you spend the extra $15 on a RemChoke in Improved Cylinder. Also, buy the cheapest "gun club" promo shells you can find. Some stores are having sales on the stuff…$4.50 a box for 25 rounds of number 8 shot in 12 gauge.

Hell yes. Use 2 3/4" lead shot – Skeet/bird loads. You want no Choke – so get a choke tube that does nothing but protect your threads from the lead shot coming down the barrel.

You can do it with a full choke – this causes less spread – you can shoot further, but if your not "dead on" you will miss… though if you hit a clay with a full choke, you’ll know it… you’ll smoke it!

    Good luck.

Yes you can……You should have a extra full choke for turkeys and skeet choke for skeet shooting. Regular clays I use full choke….but, you may want a IC or Mod choke.

Yes. Yours should come with a Modified Cylinder. That will be fine for Trap Shooting. Pumps are not the best choice for Skeet because of the doubles, but it will work.

    Use 2-3/4" #8 not Magnum.

You gun comes with an Extra full choke which is the smallest constriction choke made. It measures .689 to make a tight pattern when hunting turkeys. The pattern is so tight as to make hitting a moving target difficult. My advice, buy a set of tubes.
The proper choke for Skeet measures .7325 which apparently flares out as 12 guage measures .729. It makes a wider pattern to better bust the clay.
Also, be advised, those clay pigeons are not fit to eat any way you cook ‘em.

YES, and the great thing about it is you can shoot them from the parking lot…Never leave your car…..
