First off Mr Anon is a total troll.

I am pretty sure the maverick is the same as a mossberg 500 and you can buy new barrels in several lenghs. I bought a mossberg 500 years ago that had a 26" barrel with a fixed mod choke. I bought a 24" barrel with tubes and like it much better.

Maverick® 88™ barrels are compatible with Mossberg® 500 model barrels within gauge and capacity.

First thing you do is ignore the first poster, what he suggests is downright stupid and dangerous.

You can buy shorter shotgun barrels. Generally, they will be about 18 inches long, that is about the shortest, legal length, you can get. These are sometimes called "slug barrels" and usually used to, of course, fire slugs. They are either smooth bore or sometimes, rifled. Here is a link to MidwayUSA and a page of Mossberg 500 barrels of different lengths. You should be able to find what you want here.

Unless you are shooting people in an action movie, there is no need for a shorter barrel. In fact it reduces accuracy and overall power of the weapon. This is bad if your shooting a target.

Now if you really are planning to conceal and shoot this weapon illegally, there are always separate barrel options, look around online. It is also very easy to preform a barrel "circumcision" by cutting off some of the barrel.

In my personal experience I have found that heating the barrel in the location that you are cutting provides for a much easier and cleaner cut. Remember, you do not want a jagged edge on the barrel as it will disrupt the pellet spray.

Yes. The Maverick 88 is compatible with Mossberg 500 barrels. You can easily find barrels as short as 18".
