HANDS AND FEET ARE USED MORE OFTEN TO KILL PEOPLE THAN ANY KIND OF RIFLE! It makes A LOT more sense to completely ban handguns than ANY kind of rifle, "assault weapon" or not. And keep in mind semi-automatic means the gun fires one round for each trigger pull, unlike fully automatic guns which fire continuously until the trigger is let up or the ammo is gone, and fully automatic weapons have been heavily regulated since the National Firearms Act of 1934.
Rifles have never been a problem. So why people want them banned if they are rarely used to kill people?
Oops the handgun percent was cut off.
50.76%
Philo BTW, I am a left winger. More specifically a libertarian progressive. But I’ve met gun owning mainstream liberals as well.
Andrew D, these stats are for ANY kind of rifle. And assault rifles are fully automatic. Assault WEAPONS are semi auto rifles with "scary" features like pistol grips and bayonet lugs.
"Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons." -Josh Sugarmann
