Can I buy a gun at 19 years old?

May 20th, 2010 by eranio

Few questions I would like to ask, 10 points to the best answer. And before I list my questions, the intentions of buying a gun is not for wreckless USAGE, yes I am mentally stable, and yes I am a college student. So with that said

1. Whats the highest caliber gun I can buy at my age? Semi, auto, shotgun? auto shotgun perhaps?

2. Where is the best place I can buy this, in the Los Angeles area?

3. Can I store this gun, lets say in the trunk of my car? (Acura TSX?)

4. Do I need a register a permit or license to own my gun, and if so, how long does it take?

5. Is Big5/Walmart (hardly any walmarts in the LA area, but a lot of Big 5) good places to buy shotguns and rifles?

Thank you.

Pump Action Shotguns vs. Semi-Auto Shotguns…Which Is Better?

May 19th, 2010 by eranio

Hypothetical Situation:

If a violent angry mob was to storm your home and attack it, which of the 2 would you pick to protect yourself and your loved ones?

I’d pick the semi-auto. All I have to do is pull the trigger, I would get tired quickly after having to pump the shotgun action several hundred times.

United States handgun law logic?

May 18th, 2010 by eranio

I never will understand the logic in preventing someone under 21 from buying/owning a handgun "depending on the state" will somehow prevent shootings in this age group? But when your 18 and up you can just as easily buy an AK semi auto rifle or a 12 gauge semi auto shotgun that can maim and kill large groups of people much easier then a typical handgun ever will.

Yes I have heard the handgun is easier to conceal BS.You can just as easily take a guitar case or a large gym bag have the rifle put in and not be alerted by anyone if you casually stroll through a shopping center. And if someone intends to commit a massacre all he has to do is pull the rifle out of the bag and open fire and if he is highly skilled with the rifle he can put a large number of people down with controlled well aimed shots with the rifle.
Even just going on a full on rampage will end up with people dead and police still taking time to respond.

If we trust 18 year olds with rifle’s and shotgun’s why not handgun’s?
Give me a logical argument why you think the 21 law on handgun’s is logical and constitutional?

Why do people want semi auto rifles banned when rifles of any kind are rarely used to kill people?

May 8th, 2010 by eranio

Look at these stats.

2005 data:

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/05cius/data/table_20.html

Total murders……….14,860…..100.00%
Handguns…………………7,543……50.76%
Other weapons (non firearm, non edged)..1,954..13.15%
Edged weapons……..1,914……12.88%
Firearms (type unknown)…..1,598……10.75%
Shotguns……….517…….3.48%
Hands, fists, feet, etc….892…….6.00%
Rifles………..442…….2.97%

2006 data:

http://www.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2006/data/table_20.html

Total murders……14,990…..100.00%
Handguns………..7,795……52.00%
Other weapons (non firearm, non edged)….2,158…14.40%
Edged weapons……..1,822……12.15%
Firearms (type unknown)………1,465….9.77%
Shotguns………..481…….3.21%
Hands, fists, feet, etc…….833….5.56%
Rifles…………436…….2.91%

HANDS AND FEET ARE USED MORE OFTEN TO KILL PEOPLE THAN ANY KIND OF RIFLE! It makes A LOT more sense to completely ban handguns than ANY kind of rifle, "assault weapon" or not. And keep in mind semi-automatic means the gun fires one round for each trigger pull, unlike fully automatic guns which fire continuously until the trigger is let up or the ammo is gone, and fully automatic weapons have been heavily regulated since the National Firearms Act of 1934.

Rifles have never been a problem. So why people want them banned if they are rarely used to kill people?
Oops the handgun percent was cut off.

50.76%
Philo BTW, I am a left winger. More specifically a libertarian progressive. But I’ve met gun owning mainstream liberals as well.
Andrew D, these stats are for ANY kind of rifle. And assault rifles are fully automatic. Assault WEAPONS are semi auto rifles with "scary" features like pistol grips and bayonet lugs.

"Assault weapons—just like armor-piercing bullets, machine guns, and plastic firearms—are a new topic. The weapons’ menacing looks, coupled with the public’s confusion over fully automatic machine guns versus semi-automatic assault weapons—anything that looks like a machine gun is assumed to be a machine gun—can only increase the chance of public support for restrictions on these weapons. In addition, few people can envision a practical use for these weapons." -Josh Sugarmann

Should I buy a mossberg 12g semi auto shotgun or a 12g pump shotgun for home protection?

May 1st, 2010 by eranio

I was wanting a 12 gauge shotgun for home protection. Nothing expensive so I found a mossberg 12 gauge pump action for 0. Then I looked at a 12 gauge tactical for 0. its got the pistol grip with adjustable stock and a heat shield on the barrel. Then I looked at a mossberg 930 12 ga. semi auto with breecher for 9. Any ideas which one of these has an advantage over the other, or any ideas for something else that is a good home protection weapon?

Mossberg 500 or Benelli M4?

April 28th, 2010 by eranio

I’m looking to by a gun for home defense purposes, and am also looking to possibly start a gun collection.

I have been looking at the Mossberg 500 (the cruiser and the tactical). But I am interested in the Benelli M4 semi-auto shotgun.

I feel like the Benelli would be over kill when it comes to home defense, but would be an interesting part of a gun collection.

The downside is that the Benelli is about three times as expensive as the Mossberg.

Which would you recommend?

What make/model 12 gauge shotgun cost no more than $250?

April 21st, 2010 by eranio

I’m looking for a 12 gauge shotgun. I had a Mossberg 500 with a 28inch barrel. I wasn’t happy with the recoil. I felt it had more kick than my Remington Woodmaster Model 742 30-06 does. Is there a shotgun made that has little recoil, that cost no more than 0?(pump action or semi, I do know semi auto tend to be more pricey. But just wondering if there are semis in that price range too)
Would a Benelli Nova cost that much?
I shot my cousins Nova, it seemed to me that it had way less recoil than my Mossberg did.
I should that I dont mind a used shotgun. The Mossberg 500 I had was used. I paid 0 for it at a pawn shop in Reno, Nevada.
Chris_from_LA- When I say "I had a Mossberg 500…." It means, I no longer have it. I traded it for the Remington Woodmaster 742 30-06.

Drum for a USAS-12 Shotgun?

April 17th, 2010 by eranio

I have a modified USAS-12 shotgun. It is semi auto. Is it legal to buy a drum for it? I live in Oregon and I like to shoot clay. I don’t know what agency I should ask. I can get the drum, but I do not want to see my life behind bars.
