the link does notwork

If you are buying the standard 870 express 20 guage with a vent rib barrel that is 28 or 26 inches long, then it comes with a single removable choke. The choke is a 'modifed' and you must purchase other chokes and the choke tool seperately

Modified is a good choke, it is a do-anything choke. You can safely shoot slugs through a modified choke. Any slug will do fine for deer just don't bother with a sabot slug, they are designed for a fully rifled barrel or at least a rifled choke.

For an overall shotgun I would go with a pump Benelli Nova. I got one in Sept. and it is great. I've used it on quail, dove, and rabbits. Hopefully sometime I'll get to use it on ducks. It was $300 synthetic black stock. It comes w/3 choke tubes and can handle up to a 3 1/2" shell. For the quality and price I couldn't resist it. If you are left-handed be warned the safty can be a hassel. It is in front of the trigger guard instead of a Remington which is behind. I put the nove beside the strip down 870 (Remington) and I would be almost embarrased to be seen w/the plain 870 plus it was more money too. My dad had an 870 Wingmaster 12ga. (high gloss barrel and stock)and had had it for over 25years used it every year put through tons of shells and has never had a problem still looks almost new too. You can't go wrong with what you are looking for.

Good Luck....

It is impossible for an individual to import a firearm. A company like RAA ( Russian American Armory ) does the importation for you. Go to the RAA website and look around for information on finding a dealer. RAA does importation for Saiga and not VEPR. Some recent rulings by the BATFE have made it more difficult to import "non-sporting arms". A Saiga shotgun would be nearly as good as a VEPR shotgun.

They are both very well made shotguns. However, I have to side with the Remington 870. Why? Because the receivers on the Remingtons are made form steel. The receivers on the Mossberg are made from aluminum. Now some might say that it's the same kind of aluminum that they make engine blocks out of. Fine. But I've seen 40 year old Remingtons that looked better than 20 year old Mossbergs that were kept and used under the same conditions. That anodized black finish on the aluminum Mossbergs will start to flake off and reveal the white metal beneath. The steel on a Remington will wear at the edges and show a nice patina over time.

I just don't trust a "soft metal" such as aluminum for extreme use. Need more proof? Ask any cap and ball revolver shooter - they will tell you that steel receivered replica revolvers last much much longer than guns made from brass receivers (another soft metal).

Comment on Is a shotgun a good gun to use for my 1st time deer hunting? If not, what is an affordable alternative? by J Kirsch

Q. Is a shotgun a good gun to use for my 1st time deer hunting?
A. A shotgun firing deer slugs will work fine for hunting deer provided you keep your shots to under 100 yards or so and practice a bit with the same kind of slugs you'll be using in the field.

Q. What are the advantages/disadvantages of a shotgun.
A. The big disadvantage to using a shotgun to hunt deer is that with most guns you're limited to around 100 yards with slugs due to accuracy. So if you will be hunting in open terrain where shots will be over 100 yards its not an ideal choice. However depending on the game laws in your state (game management region/area) it may be your only choice. As far as advantages go, shotguns point well, they're cheap, and they have plenty of power. Additionally because of the nature of a slug, they won't travel nearly as far if you miss your target (which is why some states limit gun season to shotguns).

Q. Do i need a hunter's safety course to be able to get a hunting license?
A. Yes.

It does not matter what you were arrested for, only what you were convicted of. So if it was not a felony and did not involve domestic violence there should be no problem.

Good question.

No . Expungement only deals with availability of the records and does not restore any civil rights. In order to be allowed to have a gun under both state and federal law you will need to get a pardon from the governor.

Go buy the gun you want. The background check will come back and tell you. Usually, it's the felon that loses their right to possess a firearm. Others are those who have domestic violence convictions/issues. There's no way anyone of us can tell you if you can buy firearms. It's the state of PA and only the state of PA.
