Does anyone know where I can buy non lethal shotgun rounds in California?

September 8th, 2010 by eranio

I live in Los Angeles, and the concrete jungles prove to be a little threatning. I own a mossberg 500 but I want to purchase non lethal rounds for it, just in case a situation arises, I don’t want to kill the person, just incapacitate him/her.

You should have back-up lethal rounds just in case they decide not to stop

From what I gather from looking at less lethal ammo sites it appears to be illegal in LA but here’s a few sites that do sell it, although they won’t ship there, so I guess it’s a moot point.

I’m not sure if this is illegal to just ship there or illegal to possess or use there, from everything I’ve ever read/heard/seen Kommiefornia is miserable in the firearm department.

If you can find some less than lethat rounds I would suggest only as the first shot, followed with buckshot. simply b/c if it doesn’t stop them the first time you’re better off making sure they’re down for the count for your own safety.

Too bad the non-lethal route usually leads to lawsuits and well intentioned people losing their homes/livelihoods.

If you fire a "less-than-lethal" munition at a would be intruder/attacker, just remember that no court in the United States of America will see it that way. They don’t see the difference between a bean bag traveling at 350fps, or a 1 1/4 oz. load of 00 buck at a screaming 1600fps.

If you should ever have to level your firearm at an attacker/intruder for fear of your life or the well-being of loved ones, make sure you SHOOT TO KILL. You don’t want a lengthy lawsuit, and you don’t want to lose your property or freedom. You want ONE side of the story. You want it to be YOUR side.

As we all know, dead criminals can’t talk… can they?

I suggest #7.5 shot for indoors work. Won’t overpenetrate, and it will kill an attacker just as dead as a load of buckshot would.

Stay safe… and please, try to make an effort to move into a gun friendly state someday.

I think your best bet would be to search the internet for non-lethal shotgun shells. I live right outside Chicago, and I can say first hand from living in a not very gun friendly state that finding any kind of non-hunting or non-target ammunition is difficult. So I think your best chance of finding non-lethal shot would be online and then you will have to figure out how to legally get it shipped to you.

If you shoot someone, it’s the same charge either way, and yes even if it’s in self defense, they will most likely try and charge you.

Check out cheaperthandirt.com for some less lethal rounds, but if your life depends on it, you may want to reconsider.

Mr. Andrews is right. Off the record my cop friends say its better to kill in self defense than to have your life ruined or worse by trying your hardest not to kill a guy who is trying to get you. Less paperwork, no contrary testimony, no defense lawyers suing you. Now this doesn’t protect you from the family of the crook suing you but it helps your chances of escaping. There were two cases locally where one guy found a robber in his basement and tried to only wound him in the leg as the crook lunged at him. The guy nicked the crook but the crook put the homeowner in the ICU for his mercy. They haven’t caught the crook yet. The other case is of one where a pizza delivery man carried a .22LR pistol because he didn’t like recoil. He was held up by a meth addict on the seedy side of town. The pizza guy was able to draw and put 6 shots point blank into the addict’s chest. He didn’t drop the guy. The addict just stumbled back. Somehow the pizza man got away but he was lucky the addict didn’t shoot him. The addict was able to call 911 for an ambulance and was in and out of the hospital quickly. The 22LR bullets barely had any effect. Don’t buy weak calibers.

cheaper than dirt sells some less than lethal shotgun ammo.

I don’t know if you can ship it to non LEO or military users in California.

Less than lethal can kill people… just not often according to the odds. It’s made for crowd control or other civil uses…

Shoot a motivated criminal with it… a guy who’s willing to kill you in a heartbeat for your stuff… your liable to get killed. For crowd control… it’s one thing… facing off an attacker you shoot until you feel the threat is gone. If death occurs in the process… well, he should have picked a different victim.

cut a shell to 2 inches then take the powder out and then jus leave the wad in and the primer for power and put a paintball in and u dont have to crimp it….it shoots bout 350 to 400 fps and is fun aswell

There are no non-lethal rounds available for firearms. All are lethal. Some are marketed as less-lethal. At true self defense distances, most will be lethal. A sporting goods store might have some. A wanna be cop shop might sell them, or a law enforcement supply shop that sells to civilians.
