Which is better and why do you think so! A side by side or a over and under shotgun.

both are fine firearms, I just prefer side by side.

The only difference in style between the two, the over under is easier to load, but the side by side is a definite classic, I think that the answer is really just in your style, you should decide for yourself.

both have benifits and hinderances
however, the best trap shooters all use over-under, that should tell you something.

I like side by sides because they can be opened and reloaded slightly faster but O/U are slightly more accurate. It is really a personal choice and which one feels better to you.

Both are good gun’s i know a lot of people that shoot trap and skeet with both side by side as well as over under. My personal preference is for a side by side , It usually has a Modified Choke and a Full Choke. I shoot a lot of Water-foul and an occasional Goose. And find the Side by Side much easier to Gageyour shot, When the Birds are in range, especially with a goose.Because of their size optical illusion , make them look a lot closer than they realy are. One is no more difficult to load than the other.

Never talk about firearms, religion or politics; unless you want an argument.
I have never owned an over-under but my side by side has posted multiple shots with-in 6 inches at 30 yards. From my understanding side by side are easier to load and if you happen to skeet shoot or hunt birds and squirrels are easier to find the target. For larger game over-under seems to be prefered.
For defense I can’t see much of a difference; except the problem will see 2 barrels with a side X2 instead of thinking it’s the magazine with the over-under.

The over & under is quicker & easier handling, quicker & better sighting, or pointing with, better balanced.* I have and use both but, prefer my Trap, Skeet, and Field Grade over & under Ithaca Shotguns, rather than my side by side Fox Sterlingworth, L.C. Smith, or Winchester Model 21.*

There is no difference in accuracy!!!
A side by side opens shallow, which is easier to reload in a field. You don’t worry about the barrels hitting ground. A SxS will limit your view from the ground up due to the width of the barrels, but hunting, the prey is up and it is not a concern.
In trap shooting, most shoot from a high mount then the SxS obscures the clay coming out of the house; thus an OU is preferred.
I hunt with an old LC smith SxS(NO AUTO EXTRACTOR) and when I shoot the first trigger, the left barrel shoots. To reload, I open the gun, and keep my thumb on the right shell, and the spent left one drops.
This is an old school gun, and I am an old school hunter. Most all double guns for skeet, and up-land game are SxS.
My gun is about 30 years old, and still brings a price of about 500 to 600 dollars. A nice SxS today is about 1500 to 2000 dollars.
My buddy thinks I am a dork for not using an auto like his Remington 1100, but I like the look of the SxS. Its a personal preference.

Side by side because you don’t have to look down when you have to use the other barrel.
REMEMBER
don’t pull both triggers at one time, your butt’s going to leave a nice indent in the ground if you do.

i personally prefer a o/u
