Dry firing airsoft spring shotgun – does it damage the gun?

March 12th, 2010 by eranio

I have a Double Eagle M56b spring shotgun and I was just wondering if it is safe for the gun to dry fire it, just wanna make sure :) Any help would be appreciated, thank you

It’s not good for it or bad for it really.

As far as the internals of the gun go, there’s no appreciable difference between firing dry and firing a BB. The near negligible weight of the BB and the fact that it’s a poor seal in the barrel mean that there’s very little in the way of resistance to the piston in it’s normal operation. The difference in the stresses involved when firing dry is very small. The main reason to avoid excessive dry fire is that you’re unnecessarily adding wear to parts and using up finite lifespan without gaining any benefit from it…
