Firearms – how to remove spray paint?

January 30th, 2010 by eranio

I just bought a used shotgun, and it has green spray paint in areas.

The paint is on the reciever, and on the synthetic stock.

How do I remove the paint without causing damage, primarily without affecting the bluing ?

Brake cleaner, (at the local auto supply),
will clean the metal -(NOT the stock, disassemble for this).
The synthetic stock, you might be best off re-spraying
in a color of your choice.

Non-acetone based nail polish remover is worth a try. Whatever you do, be sure to do a test first in an inconspicuous area.
