Good semi-auto shotgun for under $500?

March 21st, 2010 by eranio

I’m not much of a hunter but I am interested in skeet shooting and trap shooting. What is a good semi-auto shotgun for this purpose that is under 0 or 0?

Thanks!

The Beretta AL390 is a best low price choice, but it will run you a little over $500.

Remington makes an SPR453 (you may find it as a Baikal MP153) that is about $425. Its a decent, but clunky, gun.

With that being said, if you are only planning on doing skeet and trap… I would strongly encourage you to get an over under… no reason to have a semi-auto if you are only going to be shooting 1 or 2 shells at a time. O/U’s tend to have more weight up front which aid in swing and follow through, these make them better skeet and trap guns. Since O/U’s dont’ have much for mecahnics, your options are endless. You could easily buy a good OU gun for well under $400

If you want to shoot skeet and/or trap then an over/under would serve you better than a semi auto. The Stoeger Condor is a very cheap but very good o/u to start out with. I shot on my high school team with one and outshot the people with semi autos everyday.
