How do I register a rifle in CA I got from a friend. It was originally purchased in 1987 in CA. H&K SL7?

As long as they aren’t on the AG list of banned weapons, you don’t need to register them. For the most part, rifles that are single shot or semi-auto w/ 10 round or fewer magazines do not need to be registered.

Check out the AG website for more info.

    No registration needed.

Even if they are the type of "assault rifles" currently regulated by California, it’s too late to register them.

How recently did you get this rifle and shotgun? If recently, I believe the law requires your friend to transfer them to you through a licensed dealer, who will follow the laws and charge you a small fee to do it.
