How exactly does the shotgun work in Gears of War 2?

I would like to know the exact mechanics to maximize my shotgun win/kill %, to me currently it seems very inconsistant. As in most accurate way to use it, how do people get 1 shot kills so much *normally takes me 2-3*, and is it better to aim or hip fire. Whomever gives me a complete and accurate answer will get best answer.

The shotgun is the most utilized weapon in gow2. mainly because of its 1 hit down/kill ability. most people side aim or what is referred to as bodying. it is mostly the best way to kill people instantly but ultimately depends on your skill level with the shotgun as to how often you "body" players. hard aiming is what i assume you do because you say it takes 2-3 shots. if you just get up close to the opponent and try to get them preferrably on the side you hold your gun on. (for most people its the right side) then you just shoot and aim. the part of the body you aim for differs on COG and LOCUST. on the cog you want to aim higher towards the upper chest as to the locust you wanna aim around the mid-section.

Well a the shotgun in gow2 is very op. it is used by many people online because a close range shot to the upper body is a one shot kill
