How much should I pay for an inexpensive 12-guage shotgun?

September 3rd, 2010 by eranio

I want to just buy locally so I am not meaning to order it or anything. It’s mostly going to sit unused. I just prefer having a firearm in case of a break-in or anything. I don’t want to overpay though. How much should I pay for a cheap (but functioning) shotgun? Thanks.

Mossberg Maverick 88′s are $200 dollars brand new, I know some people think they are bad because they believe they are made in Mexico. That was the older one now all of the Maverick’s are made in the U.S.A. and are comparable to the Mossberg 500. But then gain just get a Mossberg 500/590 or a Remington 870 preferably the Mossberg.

I once bought a Mossberg 88 and a Sears model .22 for 50 bucks it is cheap and effective.

Don’t know why the above guy got thumbs down over suggesting a Maverick 88….. There a decent shotgun for the $200 you will spend…. There reliable, easy to use, easy to maintain and are quite popular…. Pay no mind to the haters…. The Maverick 88 is a decent shotgun, especially for the $200 to $239 you will spend…..

I’ve picked up used single barrels for $40.

But expect to spend around $150- $200 for a used pump. Sometimes you can find new ones in the $250 range
