I want to buy and own a shotgun but im not totally sure if its legal. I know, in Oklahoma, I have to be 21 to own a handgun. I live in Oklahoma and just need to know if it is legal for me, a 19 year old, to buy and own a shotgun to keep in my house, I wont be hunting or using it in any sport. I dont need any website links to read the law just fact answers. Thanks in advance.

You can go into any gun store in Oklahoma and walk out with a shotgun the very same day if you got the $$$ and you pass the instant background check. They will check your ID to see if you are 18 years old for long rifles or shotguns.

Federal law requires that you be 18 to purchase a long gun. You must be 21 to purchase a handgun from a FFL. You must be 18 to own or possess a handgun in most cases. I don’t see any reason for OK to be more restrictive.

As long as you don’t have any problems which may pop up during the NICS check, you should be all right. Federal law requires long gun buyers to be at least 18 years old to buy from a dealer.
