I am going to be hunting whitetail deer this year, with a shotgun, what is the best choke to use.?
I am going to be hunting white tail deer this season, with a shotgun for the first time. My barrel is a smooth bore barrel, so I am wondering what kind of choke I should use, if I want to use, slugs, buckshot or sabot rounds. If anyone has any info it would be appreciated.
The current choke in my barrel is a Remington Mod Choke.

The choke you have is fine. Use rifled slugs. Sabots need a rifled barrel and buckshot is not as lethal at greater distances.
Rifled slugs are lethal out to 100 yards easily.

depends whether your using slugs or shot. for shot I would use improved as it is an all around choke and you can quickly change to bird shot in case you come across some quail. for slug you have to use smooth bore.

A mod or IC choke is best for slugs. Use rifled slugs for accuracy……ck out Remington slugs.

I recon a strangle hold works best but the shotgun is the way I’d go…
P.S. with a modified choke in a smooth bore you can use anything….
Might kick a little more with slugs but they’ll work.

If I had to use a smoothbore shotgun on deer, yes of course the rifled slugs, but also some kind of meaningful sights on the gun seem the path of sanity. Ideally, a clamp-on red dot sight, so it can be removed later for competitions where wily-eyed enthusiasts break clay pigeons without the use of meaningful sights on their gun, perhaps to give everyone a chance at winning.

* You will get the Best Performance and Accuracy by using rifled slugs shot from an Improved Cylinder Choke Only.* Use Remington or Federal Brand Slugs.*
