I just bought a fall turkey tag and a shotgun. Where is the best and nearest place to Portland OR for Turkey?

Please help me if you know a good spot. Me and a buddy just want to bring home a turkey for the wife and kids for Thanksgiving. We are planning on going on the 22nd. Also… is it good to go in the early morning… or evening? Or day? If you want to email me rather than make it public, great. please help!

The best units to hunt for turkey are in the Melrose and Rogue units. Near meadows that have treelines for them to hide are also very good. Mornings are always good but you need to know where you are going to walk there in the dark. Same hunting practices as most other big game for the time of day. Don’t forget to look up, they do hide in trees sometimes. By the way I live in Eugene.

Stop at Fred Meyer first, just in case. Those birds are hard to find in the wild. Other than that, IDK about Oregon birds but I’ve heard them around Aberdeen in Washington.
