Do not take it to a gun shop or a pawn shop. You will get bottom dollar for it because they have to make a profit somehow. Do a private sale. You will get closer to the value in doing so that way.
Check first with the local law enforcement agency to see what the law says about private sale of firearms in your area.Check http://www.gunbroker.com Look for the model and ga of yours. This will give you an idea of what they will be selling for. You can sell from that site also. Read and really understand the rules first. If you decide to sell locally, I suggest you advertise and inform the prospective buyer you will require photo ID and if legal in your state, a current "concealed weapons permit". That way your sale should be legal and make you comfortable about selling to a stranger. I would caution you that bunglers read papers. You don’t want to give out your home address or home phone. Use a cell phone number. Take a 3X5 card with you when you agree to meet the buyer and I suggest you take a big ugly friend with you. Write down your weapons info and the buyers info and keep it for your records. You might also check with a local gunsmith or gun shop to see if they will consign the weapon. You can also sell it by advertising on a bulletin board at a local hunt or gun club.
Good luck

The absolute best way I have found in hundred or so sales I have made this year alone is on your states online gun forum
You can set up a face to face deal if your state allows them
