There’s no web site you can go to secretly look up a gun to ascertain if it is stolen. There are a few sites out there that might list a few guns from some collection or famous person, but that’s about it.
The best thing you can do for your peace of mind is to simply call the local police. Tell them you bought a shotgun and have since become suspicious about it. They can run an NCIC check on the gun and serial number. If the gun is stolen, you will have to turn it in to the cops. They will, of course, want to know who you bought it from. You may be out the money and the shotgun, but you will not be charged with any crime.
For your information. The National Crime Information Center (NCIC) is actually the only national data base for stolen items, like guns, cars, boats, securities, etc., as well as wanted and missing persons. It is a Law Enforcement only site and access is tightly controlled.

if you believe it’s stolen you better be quiet, if the police find out you have it then they will take it away from you and you’ll be out of money and a shotgun, they might even try to fine you for having stolen property

Most places have no gun registration.

Simply put, you can’t.
The US has laws that specifically forbid the keeping of lists of firearms by the gov and there’s no realistic way for you to check the very few lists that do exist.
Fact is, in the US, 99.9% of firearms owners don’t even have lists of the serial numbers on their OWN guns….and without one and proof of ownership, your gun couldn’t be reported as stolen.
Take it to a cop and turn it in if you want. You’ll be out the price of a shotgun and he’ll take it home himself. It "won’t" be returned to its rightful owner….even if it was stolen….and you won’t be rewarded.

What makes you think it is stolen?* Why do you think it is stolen?*

No, there is no website that covers this. If you are in the UK, ask your local Police to check it out, if it is actually stolen, you would probably lose it when you put it on your SGC anyway.
If you are buying it from someone who already has it on their SGC, you should have no problem. The UK Police have records of all guns that have been registered previously, also records of all stolen/lost guns.
