im wanting the best all around shotgun.?
okay im a huge fan of shotguns i currently have a winchester 1300 remington 870 express a remington 870 wingmaster and a browning a-5 all are great in the own ways but i want a shotgun i can use for EVERYTHING in the south eastern united states this is for dove ducks rabbit deer black bear. now this is what i want and yall tell me the gun i need i want a 12 gauge chamberd for 3 1/2 shells pump action with a 30” or longer barrel i know people are going to say get anouther 870 chamberd for 3 1/2 but i have not seen one with a 30” or longer barrel if i can not find a gun with a 3 1/2 chamber and 30”+ barrel im ganna settle with a benelli nova oh and i will buy a gun and buy a after market barrel
my 87 is chamberd for 3” it want cycle 3 1/2
i have a winchester with a 30” and yall are wrong a longer barrel keeps the shot in tighter for longer distances think about it a 18” barrel want shoot as accurate as a 28” and a 28” want shoot as far as a 30” i just like the 30” im a real big guy 6"3 280 pounds and these long toms are just as easy to manouver threw the woods as i am and i like 3 1/2 00 buck shot when im deer hunting i am a firm beleaver in buck shot and with my winchester 12 gauge 30” barrel extra full choke im not scared to shoot one with buckshot at 65 yards it patterns so good i wanted the 3 1/2 oo buck because it has twice as many pellets and a long barrel ( i guess im going to settle with a nova 28”) and a extra full choke i figured id be on at around 80 yards. but i guess im going to get a 28” barrel now whats this i here about the mossberg? is it a good gun?

Just go for the barrel for your 870. Since you can change a barrel on this gun in under a minute, it makes sense to just buy the barrel.

Try a 12 ga. Mossberg model 500.

You should get an 870 Express Super Magnum. It will cycle 3.5 inch shells. I am not sure why you want a 30 inch barrel, because it will not do anything the more popular 28 inch barrel will do. I have used a 30 inch barrel on an 870 Wingmaster and a 28 inch barrel on an 870 Express. I did not notice anything significantly different when shooting. Any barrel longer than 28 inches may actually get in your way while hunting in brushy areas, which is what you will encounter in that area. Thick forest/brush equals more hassle.

I might be forgetting something, but the only 30"+ barrels I know about on the market are the Marlin bolt-action Goose Guns with 36" barrels.
In all honesty, a 36" barrel won’t do a damned thing that a 28" barrel won’t do. Except get tangled in more briars and shrubbery.
If you want a 3 1/2" 12 gauge, you might want to consider a 10 gauge, but that will be overkill on doves, as will a 3 1/2" 12 gauge.
If I wanted one of those super-magnum 12 gauges, I’d get a Mossberg M-835. But I’d go with a 24" or 28" barrel.

You already own it. The 870 3 inch gun will do everything you want your supergun to do. You DO NOT NEED a 30 inch barrel. You do not need a 3 & 1/2 inch chamber. The 12 guage reaches full velocity in 18-20 inches, depending on load. The extra length on the barrel is to help you swing the gun a little easier. It adds weight. That’s all. The chokes these days work the same wheather it’s an 18 inch barrel or a 30 inch barrel. It’s all the same to the choke. You get the same pattern. The 2 & 3/4 shells will do great for everything you plan to hunt. If you really feel you need more lead, you can go th the 3 inch rounds. Your 870 will shoot slugs if you have an improved cylinder choke. Choke tubes are cheap & everywhere.
You REALLY should try to use a shotgun with a 30 inch barrel before you go & buy one. You will find that they are just too long. They are harder to get through the brush. Harder to swing. Hit more limbs WHILE you swing and just generally are a pain in the rear. The 28 inch barrel is standard & is THE barrel against which all others are compared. You might want to try a 24 inch barrel. They are comming on more & more turkey guns these days. I like the 24 inch for most of my hunting just because it’s easier to swing through the brush & easier to carry. I still own several 28 inch guns & use them a bunch. I have 3 guns with 30 inch barrels & all they do is sit in the safe. Just not worth the trouble.
The 3 & 1/2 inch round was created to bridge the gap between the 12 guage 3 inch & the 10 guage. The rounds carry more shot than the 3 inch rounds but also have more recoil. I have a few guns with 3 & 1/2 inch chambers. The only time I EVER use the 3 & 1/2 inch rounds is when I’m goose hunting and even then, it’s only when the geese won’t decoy & I’m taking longer shots. When that happens, I probally shouldn’t be shooting at them. The rounds are expensive & I send an awful lot of money into the sky & don’t get very many extra geese for it. There is nothing that I NEED the 3 & 1/2 inch rounds for. I just have to try to find a reason to shoot them since I have some guns that will.
Recap: The 28 inch 3 inch 870 shotgun IS the perfect all around shotgun.

Ant shotgun using 2 3/4" shells has been harvesting game for decades before the others arrived on the scene, which are not really necessary.* Its all about hype and selling more ammo by the manufacturers, but is not necessary to Harvest game.* Its all about $$$..
