Is it a common practice to use a shotgun shell as the slide for a slide guitar?
I saw a few photos and a video of The Beatles in studio recording "For You Blue" By George Harrison. Anyway, John Lennon was playing an electric lap slide guitar and was using what looked like a shotgun shell as his slide. I’m familar with what slides should look like (I play them and have a few of my own) So yeah I’m pretty sure it was a shotgun shell, so give me your thoughts.

Now they’re all plastic or paper… but my husband has a box full of "Grandpa hand-me-downs" that have metal casings…. but to answer your question, no I don’t think it’s common practice, but they’re the right size and shape, so why not?

empty shells, ok but they don’t work that well. don’t be a poser and use a real glass slide.
