The 535 is reliable, and durable, it's not going to leave you stranded ("click" instead of "boom"). Secondly, the 3.5'' shell will work on all critters, two to four legged. Problem is, 3.5 in. shells kick like a S.O.B. and if you ever need to get a follow up shot, you are going to need more time to recover than you would from a 2 3/4''. Stick with the 2 3/4 in. shells, they kick less, and they will give you more capacity if you happen to have multiple home invaders or if you miss (it's dark, you are naked *presumably*, you are full of adrenaline and dazed). The 2.75'' will knock someone flat pretty damn well though. I pray that you never have to use it for home defense though. Good choice of shotgun firstly.
