Authentic? It better be authentic or that’s false advertising.

It your basic model shotgun. It’s cheap but it works and can take a great deal of abuse even when your deliberatley trying to damage it. It has the aluminum saftey which is good. Mine has the plastic.

You already have all the basic info. The one I use I haven’t had a problem with. The only advice is don’t use federal shotshells. Federal does not know how to make good shotgun shells as it is but my mossberg jammed a few times with that stuff.

If it is authentic, ( I don’t know of a huge knock-off market for them) the Mossberg is a good sturdy shotgun. I have been using one on patrol for the past 13 years without complaint. That configuration is usually compared to a Remington 870. The only gripe some have is that the safety is on the tang instead of on the trigger guard like a Remington 870 (this can easily be learned through training). Also there aren’t the plethora of aftermarket toys available like an 870, but there are a lot. Just think about it this way, the government is using it, so it’s not junk.

Yes a Mossberg 500 is an excellent shotgun…. I have several and none have ever disappointed….

Avoid the # 50474….. Pistol grips are hard to aim….

Consider either the Mossberg 500 catalog # 50577….. These are also available in a matte (parkerized finish)… I don’t know the model # for the matte finish model 8 shot but Mossberg does offer one……

or the shorter 6 shot Mossberg 500 catalog # 50411…..

Both of these are simple, no frills get the job done shotguns…..

Here’s a write up on the benefits of the Mossberg 500 shotguns…..

Save the money and get the standard Mossberg 500A. I doubt it is any better for the purpose you intended.

    It’s not worth it.
If you want a little more unusual military grade Mossy, try and find a 590A1.

The model numbers for them all start with 51xxx, not 50xxx. Here is the one I have.

Yeah, it looks authentic and the mossberg is one of the best if not the best shotguns available. Mossbergs are used by law enforcement, government agencies, and military. It passed the military trials and will make an excellent home defense gun. It is probably the best home defense shotgun available. Make sure you practice so that you don’t short stroke.
