Isn't it strange that in the US, at 18 someone can buy an M-16, or a 12 gauge shotgun, but not a 22. pistol?
It is hard to get, but technically, in the US, someone could possibly get a federal permit for an assault rifle at 18. That same 18 year old could buy a shotgun or hunting rifle, but they couldn’t buy a 22. pistol, or any other handgun. Isn’t that strange?

Thats pretty insane.
whats even more insane is that while an 18 year old is running around blowing eveything away with his M-16 he cant smoke a cigarette or drink a beer while doing it because THAT would be illegal.
you can join the military, vote, drive a car and own a gun at 18, but you cant smoke a cigarette or drink a beer until your 21,absolutely insane.

Kinda but what I think is the worst is than you can fight for your country at 18 but can’t legally drink until your 21. How unfair is that?

well remember a shotgun and m-16 isn’t easy to put in your pocket. but a 22. pistol could easily be hidden and taken to restricted areas.

Actually no it isn’t. If you think about it a teenager that wants to hurt someone or themselves will have a hard time because carrying around an assault rifle is more suspicious than a 22 where you can hide it in your pocket.

A handgun is easy to conceal. And that’s why there are more restrictions on owning handguns.
A handgun is not of much use for anything except to shoot at people at close range. But rifles and shotguns are normally used for hunting and sport and not for violence against other people.

agreed.you should be able to buy what you want.the idea of the second amendment was to promote guns to the people.in case of the government both foriegn and and domestic. people argue that this was flintlocks and the like that they would never approve of today.this is wrong,we have to be able to protect ourselves as technology on them increase . i don’t want a flintlock against some nut with a ak 47 comming at me.this arguement falls hollow.

We are under the Bush administration and when under a Republican addministration the gun laws are crazy and we have more gun killings and school shootings.

What’s really strange is that they don’t seem to mind their own kids getting shot to pieces at school every few weeks and that they will probably still be sticking doggedly to an ill framed amendment to their original constitution even when Walmart starts selling phasers.
