Mossberg Pump Action Shotgun ?
Does anyone out there own a pump action Maverick shotgun made by Mossberg? I bought one alone with 3 choke tubes at a very good price. The gun is a 12 gauge with a black, synthetic forearm and stock. The man I bought it from told me it’s shoots a little to the left, (4-5 inches), which it does. It has a ventilated rib, with 2 beads on the rib. The first bead is alright. The bead on the end of the barrel is defineatly not in the center of the rib. It’s offset to the left a little. I went to Wal Mart and saw that they had 1 just like mine. I looked at it and the bead on the end of the barrel was about a quarter of an inch long and made out of white, irredescent plastic. I’m thinking someone broke the original bead, and installed this little metal tip of the end of my gun. I’ve owned shotguns with irredescent sites before. Can anyone else confirm that they have this type of Mossberg and that the bead on the end of the barrel is made out of irredescent plastic? Thx alot.

Mossberg has been using front white beads for a couple of decades now. The mid-bead is always a smaller brass, the front is a white bead. I have literally dozens of them here in the shop.
You can have yours reset by any competent gunsmith for about $20. He’ll plug the existing hole and redrill one a fraction of an inch behind the original….or you can simply pick up a rib snap-on type sight. Is it possible that your front bead was broken off and reset by someone without the right tools/skills? Does it look like there’s a plugged hole anywhere near that front bead?

That’s just an example. There are dozens of them out there to choose from. Try Midway etc.

This one here is an offset bead….it’s mounted on the side of the threaded base instead of straight up and down. By turning it a fraction of an inch, installing it a tiny bit off of straight, it will place the white bead in the middle of the vent rib. That will fix your prob without having to redrill and tap a new bead.

An example of what I meant. Notice that by simply turning the bead off of straight, it moves the visible bead off of straight with the base. That would fix a badly set bead.
If you need anything else, feel free to ask, sir!
