My newly acquired older semi-automatic Remington shotgun won't eject the spent shells.?

February 21st, 2010 by eranio

I can manually eject them and the next shell loads fine but it won’t eject them under firing conditions. Any suggestions?

Depends on what type of Remington you have. If it’s an 1100 you need to remove the barrel and forend and make sure of two things. First are all of the pieces there. There shoudl be a rubber barrel seal, which looks like a rubber key ring, and two metal rings. You’re seal is most likely gone or broken. Second if it’s an 1100 it’s gas opperated and therefore may need the gas ports cleaned out, which are located on the barrel itself inside the loop that holds the barrel to the tube. All of these are cheap and easy to fix. Go to e-gunparts.com for a detailed schematic and parts list of any gun. Good luck. hope this helps.

In addition to what jmm says, also try different loads, some semi auto’s cycle better with different loads.

pretty much what the other guys have said…. you have a dirty gas port, or a bad O ring… easy fixes

If it shucks empties by hand… that tells me the ejector-extractor is OK

Check the seals, could be a leak so the pressure isnt there to eject the shell.. or the loads your using are too light and dont create enough pressure to eject. Check the gun first and if everything checks out go pick up some heavy rounds and see if it cycles

remington is Famous for not working as good with low brass ,but it helps if you make sure it is clean in side and out that means clean and re-grease the action not just oil …or just use high brass loads,,that said remington rules i got 3 and wouldn’t get rid of any of them.exspecialy my sportsman
