Name of a movie where a slingshot was used to kill?

Anyone remember the name of a movie where a man killed someone with a slingshot? I think the killer was Andy Griffith but cant remember. He hid the slingshot down a pipe and someone fished it out. I believe the man was shot in the back and at first people though it might have been done by a shotgun. I think it was set in a desert town. Thats all I can remember anyone know what the name was?

The only movie or TV program featuring Andy Griffith is the Andy Griffith Show episode called Opie the Birdman. That doesn’t sound like him. There was a movie called Slingshot but it wasn’t anything like that.
