Need more answers for shotgun shell questions and others please?….?
Don’t really know much about guns, but am not completely stupid. Well, I have a Charles Daly 12 gauge field version semi-auto shotgun and I know it is chambered for 3 inch shells. My question is, if I get a 3 1/2 shells, will they perform better and will the 2 3/4 perform less better then the 3 inch? Also, can I even shoot 3 1/2 and 2 3/4 shells in my gun, or is it not recommended to shoot either, just 3? Also the shotgun holds 4 shells total, maybe 5, just haven’t tried to push it in with force, but do they have tube extenders for semi-autos, especially for charles daly? Hear they are hard to find if they have any because they are marketed under a different name but is this gun similar to any brands that could have accessories for this gun? Thanks to all the answers! Also I have a modified choke with a smooth bore, rifled slugs be good for this?

First if you don’t have a manual for the gun call the company and try to get one. Next, if the gun is cambered in 3 inch you CANNOT fire 3 1/2 shells. On some guns you can fire smaller like the 2 3/4 but you can not fire larger than its chambered for. Secondly, depending on where you live, it can be illegal to put more than 3 rounds in your gun for hunting purposes and for recreation some states have a 5 round limit and classify any shotgun that holds more than 5 rounds and is a semi auto as an "assault weapon" ( I live in NJ and this communist state does) Besides, I a nice shotgun like that you don’t want to mess it up buy even trying to put a tube extender on. Once again if you had the paperwork that came with a gun it may tell you what accessories are compatible with it.

Unless your shotgun is chambered for 3 1/2 shells DON’T even try to chamber or fire them in your gun. The results could be quite dangerous for you and the shotgun.

stick with the 3 inch shells. And if you can only fit 4 load one in the chamber and then it should be able to hold one more.

Have a Charles Daly chambered in 20 ga. and love the gun. Like the person before me said DO NOT SHOOT 3.5 IN SHELLS!!!! it will however shoot 2.75 just fine. As far as which shells you use it depends on what you want to do. Personally I shoot 2.75 for everything from dove to turkey, only changing BB size. I do move to a 3 in. for ducks and geese. They do make tube extenders, but I dont know if for this particular model, I would check tactical gear websites. Unless you have a slug barrel, I would not recommend firing a large number of slugs of any kind out of it.

Do not try to use 3-1/2" shells. Your gun is not designed for them.
I do not think mag extensions are available for Charles Daily Shotguns.
Rifled slugs will work but I would buy a rifled choke tube to assist with accuracy.

You can shoot 2 3/4 inch shells out of a gun chambered for 3 in shells but not anything longer. The 2 3/4 inch shells will not have as much kick, won’t shoot as much shot, and will not shoot as far. For dove and quail this isn’t a big deal, for turkey it is. Home defense though the shorter shells will be fine. Your gun doesn’t sound like a home defense gun though. The modified choke tube is a little small for my taste for rifled slugs, but some people say they are okay. I am not a slug shooter though so take caution and get a few more opinions. I don’t really know anything about the tube extenders, except that if you will be hunting check your local laws on how many shells your gun can hold while hunting. Where I live the gun can only hold two in the tube for hunting.

Wow lots of questions. 2 3/4 shells yes….3 1/2 no in your 3" gun. More shot in bigger shells but velocity is about the same. Tube extenders for remington, mossberg don’t know about your gun. You will need to research and make some calls. I would think so.
A smith could make it work I think. Be aware you can’t hunt in most places with a mag that big.
A smooth barrel is poor for slugs over like 30feet
Think of a 1700′s musket. A rifled deer barrel is not to expensive.
If you want to shoot deer for cheap get a surplus mosin nagant 91 30 or other cheap surplus rifle.Just see that ammo is available or load your own.

if your shotgun is chamberd for 3” don’t put 3 1/2 in it it will screw some things up. 2/34 is used for small game like squrills and quail. 3” is used for duck, goose, and turkey hunting.

first of all NEVER NEVER NEVER put 3 1/2 inch shells in your gun. It can kill you becasue the sheel will get stuck and the next shot essentially will give you a bomb in your hands. as far as the 2 3/4 inch shells look onn the barrel of your rifle and see if it can accept that. A charles Daly shotgun is a very nice gun and you dont want to mess it up. Dont even bother with the tube extenders , it wll make the shot gun look weird. if you have the manuall for the gun you may find the answers your looking for there becasue a lot of times in the back of the book it will have a list of accessories that can safely go on the shotgun..
As far as the slugs youre better off getting a rifled shotgun. you can get a rifled choke but the accuracy wont be as good, with a smooth bore it will be even worse
