Sounds like cheating or mis-perception. But here are some tips for the shotgun:
1) Active reload
2) Shoot from the hip and aim slightly up
3) Roll anywhere but to the oppent when being shot at with a shotgun (damage should be minimal, but you will be an easy target briefly after the roll if excuted too soon)
