Proper shotgun for trap/ skeet shooting?

April 12th, 2010 by eranio

I am an avid trap and skeet shooter and I’m looking to buy a new shotgun. So I need a bit of advice. There are three pump shotguns from Remington that I’m interested in. Now before you tell me to go with semi-automatic, yes I know but it is just too much out of my budget. So the three models are the Remington 870 Express 28", 870 Express Tactical 18.5", and 870 Express Synthetic 7-Round, all 12 Gauge. Any idea which I should purchase for this particular sport?
Well if I can’t get a semi-auto then I’m pretty sure I can’t afford an over and under either.

Go with the 870 express 28". You want the longer barrel for trap and honestly the synthetics just feel cheap and plastic. Besides lots of trap and skeet ranges aren’t going to allow you to have more than 2 possibly 3 rds in the chamber at any time anyway. In fact, in most states it’s illegal to even enter the woods with a gun holding more than 3 rds. If you’re using it "for trap" get the express 28". If you’re planning on going into combat, maybe i’d consider one of the others, but you’ll get a lot more use out of the regular sport model. The tactical is made strictly for home defense and the 7 rd. is for fighting in trenches or riot control. ..neither of which you’ll probably get much into..
