Question about shotgun mounted UNDER AR-15?
Ok, to understand what Im talking about, you would have needed to see the movie Predator.
In the movie, the Native American, Billy, has an M-16 with a shotgun mounted under where the grenade launcher would be.
I realized that a civilian could do this, and it would be both legal and awesome.
I watched the movie closely and there were no picatinny rails, also, both guns worked properly because he fired both.
Have you ever seen this setup? How would you go about it? How would you modify the shotgun so it would fit properly?
My M-16 platform would be an Armalite AR-15. Shotgun would be a tactical mossberg pump with pistol grip. (0 at Dunhams).
Also, is there a way I could attach and detach both guns and have the shotgun still work on its own properly?
DM, sorry my friend, but that movie had advisors who were weapon experts and after doing some research, it is no only possible, but it exists. I just want to know how to do it. If you don’t like the question, don’t answer.

Check out the website below. I think this is more what you are describing…The only drawback would be that the shotgun being under 26" wouldn’t meet BATF guidelines to be legal for civilians to own let alone possess. I’ve seen "shorty" Remington 870′s that you could purchase with a Class III license and $200 tax stamp though. This one mounts using a picatinny rail system but again making it LEGAL would be the issue…..

wow I would have no idea how to go about it but I am sure some of our resident gunsmiths can help. I do remember a few years ago seeing and ad for just what you speak of but can not remember who makes it . It was an AR with a 12 ga and it was full camo

You have watching too many sci-fie movies
Anything can be done in the movies, but in real life, things are usually not as simple.
why not try & be satisied with what is available.
Next thing, you will be wanting to know where you can get a phaser, like they had on star trec

Simple barrel band mount with a threaded block for the Mossberg receiver to mount to. Slotted forearm like on a 203. Barrel band mount that fits through the front sight base.
It’s not a difficult project at all. It could probably be rigged up with hardware that’s already on the market.
Your best bet on the Mossberg would be to avoid using the existing scope mount holes (if your receiver is tapped for a mount at all) and go for a clamshell-type receiver mount. I wouldn’t trust those aluminum holes to handle much recoil.
Addendum to an email: Here’s a pic of the weapon in question: It’s a Mossberg 500 with a perfectly stock and perfectly legal barrel. It’s legal in every way.

There are only two things you have to worry about on a system like that. Correct aim so it hits the right target….and the ability to withstand recoil. All else is useless crap.
In the second case, the recoil, it would take too much of a pounding to mount it via the existing scope mount holes on the Mossy. The Mossy is aluminum, remember. There’s also no receiver internal clearance to add larger scope mount screws. A clamshell-type scope mount (that replaces the existing pins would be more than sufficient. For the front shotgun attach, a barrel band picatinny rail would be perfect.
On the AR, you’d add a barrel band picatinny rail for the shotgun receiver to mount to and slot your existing forearm so the rail would be a accessible. On the front, add a barrel band rail through the front sight base or a bayonet lug-mounted shorty rail.
To mount the shotgun, you’d simply use a rail to rail adapter on the front and back. Mounting would be two mins or so….dismounting would be the same.
Barrel band rails already exist for the AR and the Mossy. The slotted forearm also exists. Clamshell Mossy mounts with rails do, too. The front bayonet lug rail also exists. The only part that’s critical would be the rail to rail adapter for the front….since it controls the shotgun aim, it would have to be manufactured to the right size.

Quite possible, but too heavy when complete to be that useful. I’d rather just carry a short shotgun as a back-up.

Here it is;

But its illegal for civilians as any shotgun has to be no less than 26 inches overall, and shotgun barell can not be under 18 inches.
