question is….. can u trace a killer that used a double barrel shotgun or double barrel sawed off?

i think i know the answer but its better to get more ideas to see if i might of missed something cuz im almost sure that if theres no empty shell available even if u have the weapon u cant determine if that weapon was the specific weapon used in a homicide unlike other guns it always leaves a certain mark wich can tell u everything u want to know about a homicide specially when u have shells poping out and falling everywhere

if the criminal in this case is smart and did not leave any hairs, fingerprints, any bodily fluids behind, it would be impossible to trace who was the killer.

slugs or shot fired from any shotgun (non-rifled) is impossible to trace, as there are no rifling marks or any other evidence to point he cops in a particular direction. All the police and determine is the caliber of the shotgun used (if they find the wad or count the number of buckshot / large lead shot) and what type of load was used.

all you need is to find a good alibi when the cops come knocking around and explain why you recently discharged your gun. You could say it was a ND or AD and they’ll let you off. It would be very hard to tell whether you really had a ND/AD or used it as a murder weapon.

Any gun can be matched too the way that it fires a round. Then you just have too wait until the gun is recovered either in a crime or another shooting.

A shot gun also generates a cartridge case/an empty when fired. But,compared to a rifle, revolver or a pistol the discharged shots do not leave behind the peculiar signature in terms of the specific weapon from which it has been fired.
