remington 870 express 7 round shotgun question?
hi, the shotgun is advertised with a fixed cylinder choke, can i hunt with this? i hunt any thing from crows, rabbits, deer, ducks, pretty much anything that moves. also can i shoot any type of shells from birdshot to slugs? Sorry if it sounds dumb, im a rifle/handgun guy and know nothing of shotguns.

Fixed cylinder means straight bore or no choke. If your hunting is done at close range, it will be OK, if more than 30 yards, the shot will scatter too much. Get a 28" modified for hunting. You can fire just about any shotgun shell through it, but shot and rifled slugs work best from a smooth bore.

I think you’d be happier with a gun with a rem choke barrel, unless you want to buy a different barrel. A fixed cylinder really limits what and how far you can shoot. I got an extra barrel for mine, a 20” rifle sighted smooth bore with Rem choke. I can shoot most anything now…slugs, buckshot…to tight turkey chokes with the advantage of fine tuning the choke for slugs, buck, or bird as its hard to tell what will work best with a given load.

If you use slugs like you would use for deer hunting make sure you use the proper sized shell according to your cylinder size. ( 3inch shell for a 3inch choke).
