Remington 870 shotgun barrel question?

May 15th, 2010 by eranio

I have a Remington 870 Express Magnum and I was wanting to purchase a second barrel for it. I want to get an 18" barrel. I don’t want to cut down the one I already have because I would like to keep that one skeet shooting. I looked on Remington’s website and they have barrels but they are like 0.00 +. Does anybody know where I can get them cheaper than that? Maybe around 0.

Try http://www.gunbroker.com, http://www.gunsamerica.com, http://www.auctionarms.com, for used ones, and http://www.midwayusa.com, http://www.cheaperthandirt.com, and http://www.cabelas.com for new ones.

Any Remington barrel will be expensive. However, Mossberg makes barrels for the Remington 870. They are priced much more reasonably. Here are a few links. Finding one in stock may be difficult this time of year.

    $120

I did see some for $100 on cheaper than dirt, but they were sold out, no backordering either.

I suspect if oyu looked around you could find some $100 ones at some other online retailer. It depends on if you think looking on the internet for 4 hours is worth saving $20, and I’d backorder soon. I expect that the price of such an item will be going up.

heck pretty soon it will be cheaper to buy an inexpensive short barreled shotgun rather than coverting an existing gun.

Guns shows are the best place for these types of things.

I will be attending this one tomorrow. Try the link and maybe you can find one in your area.

I’m in the same boat you are, except I want 30 inch.. Cabelas had some that were about 150 I wanna say.

One thing to know: you can use barrels that have shorter chambers than the one your gun is designed for!

I have a Remington 870 Super Magnum Express, with 3 1/2" chamber. I wanted a short cylinder barrel to use at a tactical shotgun class, but Remington doesn’t make one for that action. I called them, and they said I can mount ANY Remington 870 barrel on that action, but I’d only be able to load shells that matched the new chamber size.

I found a barrel on eBay for about $80. It was an 18" straight pipe with rifle sights. Perfect! It was only a 3" chamber, but since I was only shooting 2 3/4" shells anyway, that didn’t bother me.

    This worked for me:

You have gotten some good advice here.. cheaper than dirt is always selling 870 remington accessories and there are many others.. be careful ‘cutting down a barrel’ .. I think it is illegal in all states to "alter the weapon"… Remember "Ruby Ridge"??? That is why that guy was in trouble with the law men.

Here ya go. Cheaper Than Dirt.
They have several barrels for the 870.
I got the 18.5" police barrel and love the way it looks on my super mag.
