Would I be able to use a Remington 870 Tactical shotgun for home defense, skeet shooting, and hunting, and just at the range?

Nope…..
No one shotgun is a do all, be all, end all shotgun……
If you want a defense shotgun then get a defense shotgun….. Then purchase a hunting shotgun for hunting……
Oh? – You say your budgets too tight?…. Your in luck!…. Purchase a Remington 870 Express with a 28 inch barrel… Then purchase an 18 inch security barrel for when things go bump in the night… after hunting just swap the short barrel on – It takes a minute and your all set for defense duty……
Get one of these…….

Then look here at this Mossberg page — Huh? – Yup!… They make a Remington 870 18 inch security barrel… Model # 90335…..

On a budget this is the way to go…. One shotgun = two barrels!

If you get the right set of barrels, for deer and home defense i’d use a cylinder bore, with rifled slugs or 000 Buckshot. For bird hunting and skeet get a barrel with interchangable chokes so you can tailor the pattern to what you need to do.

the best in between, do it all barrel length is 20". This allows you to have a tubular magazine that holds 6+1 shells, and you can install a wooden dowel to keep the tube so it only holds 2 rounds as is mandatory when bird hunting. The 18 1/2" barrel is best for home defense, but terrible for bird hunting and skeet or trap shooting, but nice for deer and bear hunting with slugs. Having screw in chokes will help, no matter what barrel length you have. The 20" is right at the minimum length for bird hunting, but does work, again having screw in chokes makes the pattern more reliable for long and short distance. I use the 20" barrel for both purposes, and find it ideal for hunting with slugs as well.
The other choice is a standard 22 or 24" barrel for bird hunting, and a separate barrel of 18 1/2 or 20" for home defense or hunting with slugs, and purchase a tubular magazine extension and spring so that with the shorter barrel, you can have the additional rounds, and remove it and use the standard length mag tube when hunting with the longer barrel.

If you get an extended magazine type gun, it is hard to use for skeet shooting and hunting because of how it balances or swings. Not saying it can’t be done, it’s just shy of ideal.
If I were you I’d get a regular Remington 870 express with a 26" or 28" barrel, then purchase an 18" barrel for home defense. It is easy to swap barrels on the 870. Want to go hunting or skeet shooting? Pop on the 28" barrel.

Sure. Just get different barrels and swap them out and take the magazine extension off and put the plug in when you go hunting. Provided you have a standard stock and not a pistol grip set up. That would be pretty awkward
