Remington shotgun shells?

May 20th, 2010 by eranio

I bought a box of shotshells today 12 gauge – 2 3/4 length – 1290 velocity fps – 1 oz. shot – 8 shot http://www.remington.com/products/ammunition/shotshell/upland/lead_game.asp

I noticed when I looked at the shell itself, it is labeled as 2 3/4" – 70mm : 3 1/4 – 1 – 8

What does the 3 1/4 mean?

It’s the dram equivalent from the old black powder loads. The smokeless powder loaded in it would give the same performance as 3 1/4 drams of black powder.

If I remember right it is the powder load. 3 1/4 dram.
