First off the gun is not designed to do this
Although it should be designed to withstand the stress at least once
From past experience I can tell you that if you are about 14 and 150 pounds the kick is enough to throw you over the side of a pickup truck if you are standing inside the bed

Depends on the gauge.
12 gauge?? You be on your bum.I wouldn’t snug it up to my cheek.
Why would you want to do this?
You never do this in a hunting situation – very hard on the gun.

I’m guessing double what it normally is.

If it’s a 12ga. then the kick will be pretty stiff, but if you hold it tight and keep your cheek against the stock, you’ll be able to handle it.
If the double barrel is real old, then do this with light loads so you don’t stress the gun too much.

I have an old 16 gauge double that my grandfather gave me years ago. When I was about 15 and though I was invincible, I tried that stunt. It felt like a mule kicked me in the shoulder. Funny, since then, I haven’t had the urge to repeat it.

I finally get to tell my story again, I was 8 years old when my family was visiting Great grand fathers farm in Arkansas. He had a double barrel 12ga with exposed hammers. I wanted to shoot it My Dad said no, and when he and mom went to town, Grandpa said come on boy I will let you shoot it. We took it out behind the barn, it was so heavy I could not hold it up, I propped it up on the rail fence and pulled back both hammers. Just as I was about to pull the triggers, Dad shows up, takes one look at me and Grandpa, smiles and says , well, shoot. I pulled both triggers, the blast knocked down the top rail of the fence, I flew back about 10 feet and shotgun landed in the pig pen. With a very sore and bruised shoulder, and ego, I then learned how to clean a shotgun.

Forget about it.* Bad idea.* If they were meant to work that way they would have made them that way, but they didn’t.*
