If the double barrel is real old, then do this with light loads so you don't stress the gun too much. When I was about 15 and though I was invincible, I tried that stunt. It felt like a mule kicked me in the shoulder. Funny, since then, I haven't had the urge to repeat it. He had a double barrel 12ga with exposed hammers. I wanted to shoot it My Dad said no, and when he and mom went to town, Grandpa said come on boy I will let you shoot it. We took it out behind the barn, it was so heavy I could not hold it up, I propped it up on the rail fence and pulled back both hammers. Just as I was about to pull the triggers, Dad shows up, takes one look at me and Grandpa, smiles and says , well, shoot. I pulled both triggers, the blast knocked down the top rail of the fence, I flew back about 10 feet and shotgun landed in the pig pen. With a very sore and bruised shoulder, and ego, I then learned how to clean a shotgun.
