Despite owning several guns, a shotgun has never been among my arsenal. However, I plan to correct that shortly. The shotgun I purchase will have its primary role as a home defense gun, but I would like the option of changing barrels for hunting or skeet/trap shooting. I would also like some guidance in the 12 gauge versus 20 gauge debate – I would like if my wife and kids could wield this gun as well, so I’m sort of leaning toward 20 gauge, but I understand that 12 gauge is not only more powerful, but there is a greater variety of loads in that caliber.

Hello! I just got into firearms now that I live in Alaska and I love it. As of now, I have a sweet little 12 gauge pump action escort but now I want to hear from the people. What else is out there? In your people’s opinion, what is the best shotgun out? Also, I want to practice my accuracy. What rifle does the trick? Thank you all in advance and have a great day!

I want to buy a Remington 870 12 gauge shotgun in the near future. What shotgun load would you recommend against an attacking full grown grizzly bear? Where do I have to shoot it to stop it?

For Mossberg 500, KNOXX made magazine and then they stopped the production. Does anyone know where can I buy these magazines? Does anyone else produces these magazines for 12 gauge shotgun ?

Starting up pheasant hunting and need to know whats the best type of shotgun to use. Is it practical enough to use a singleshot shotgun considering it’s less than a hundrad dollars? And I want to get a 12 gauge. I also hear people talking about adjusting the choke, what do they mean by that? Thanks.

I just went clay pigeon shooting for the first time today and am thinking about buying a single shot shotgun. I would be using the gun for almost only clay pigeon shooting and not for hunting. The problem becomes that I know next to nothing about what to choose when it comes to buying one. haha. I want a 12 gauge, and I’d like to get one for under 0 or not far over that.
These are the ones that I was looking at to possibly get.
H&R Pardner
H&R Topper/Topper Deluxe/Topper Deluxe Classic
Remington SPR100
Rossi Full Size Field Grade
Baikal 18FM-M
EAA/Baikal IZH-18
Stoeger Single Barrel
I’d really appreciate any advice on those guns or any others.
Thanks a lot.
the browning 410′s that i found cost upwards from ,000. i said not much more than 0

I have been practicing skeet shooting the last month and love it. I am planning to buy a shotgun some time this year. I am looking for something that can moonlight as hunting/skeet shooting/ home defense. Any insight on gauge and make (sxs, o/u, semi, or pump). I am probably leaning to Remington over Mossberg; Beretta is too rich for my blood. I would like to stay under 0 if possible.
Also I have shot with 20 gauge and 12 gauge, but not noticed a strong kick either way. I have heard both have a stronger recoil. Your thoughts?

I was thinking about buying one, as I already have a 590 special purpose, and I love it, but I want a secondary shotgun for another part of my home, in case I’m in another part- I don’t have to worry about running and grabbing my main 12 gauge. So, if you have a Mossberg 500 Tactical, (mind you, the 500 Tactical with the AR telescoping stock) how does it feel for you? Does it fire good? Strong? Reliable as the 590? A good oversight of your opinion would be appreciated.
NOTE: I don’t want to hear about "get this shotgun, or this one" I don’t want that, please stay on the main purpose of my topic title, with that in mind, I look forward to positive and or constructive, critique.

I have a double barrel Stevens 12 gauge and I was thinking I wouldn’t need a slug barrel if I was going just shoot a slug maybe once or twice.

My buddies and I went shooting today, and after skeet shooting for a while we decided to set up a poor man’s tactical course. If I’m just standing there I can hit my target pretty well with my pistol, but it’s SO much harder to hit your target when you’re moving from place to place and trying to be quick. We were using our pistols and 12 gauges. Reloading the pistol is a piece of cake obviously, but reloading the 12 is so hard when you’re "under pressure."
So how do I learn to load the 12 gauge faster? Is there a certain stance I should be using when shooting pistol/shotgun? Anything else I should know about the sport? I’m right handed and right eye dominant, if that helps. It was just a lot of fun and I want to get better at it. Thanks
Oh yeah, I have no money to pay for any kind of classes

I am an avid trap and skeet shooter and I’m looking to buy a new shotgun. So I need a bit of advice. There are three pump shotguns from Remington that I’m interested in. Now before you tell me to go with semi-automatic, yes I know but it is just too much out of my budget. So the three models are the Remington 870 Express 28", 870 Express Tactical 18.5", and 870 Express Synthetic 7-Round, all 12 Gauge. Any idea which I should purchase for this particular sport?
Well if I can’t get a semi-auto then I’m pretty sure I can’t afford an over and under either.

Its my first year hunting whitetail, i will be using a 12 gauge, 2 and 3/4" slug. I will be hunting a winchester model 1300 or a some savage semi auto. I just picked up federal truball, winchester super-X , remington slugger and winchester supreme platinum tip slugs. Whats the effect range? There both smooth bored shotguns. and open sights.
They all say 1 oz execpt the winchester supreme. It says 400 grains. How big is the 1 oz. whats that mean? im good with rifles but i dont know anything about slugs

For my first shotgun, I got a used 12 gauge Remington 870. I wanted to make sure it had a smooth barrel. I took the barrel off and shined a light down the barrel, and it *looks* smooth. Would it be obvious if it was a rifled barrel, or is there a better way to know for sure?

I would like to get a shotgun, probably with a pistol grip, that I could use in my house, but also outside with an effective range of at least 40 or 50 yards. I’ve read in a few different sources that a 12 gauge is bad to use inside a house (too much flash, noise, recoil, penetration with misses). I looked at the Mossberg HS 410, but it’s effective range is 20 feet to 20 yards due partly to it’s choke. What about the Model 500 Persuaders in a 20 gauge? Would this do the trick? Multiple shots, short overall length for inside, but I don’t know about the effective range. I can’t afford a pistol, nor am I skilled shooting with one. I have the time to become familiar with a new shotgun, but not to become a good pistol shot.
It’s not murder, and is self defense, if the person is shooting at me. I know it would be tough to be shot if I’m running at 50 yards, but would like to be able to give myself some realistic cover fire as I try to get away. I don’t know why you would assume it’s murder. I said self defense, as in someone is trying to kill me.
You will also notice that it wasn’t about not being able to handle the 12 gauge, but that some said it would act like a flashbang with the noise and all, and that IN a home, even a 410 would have plenty of power. I’m really thinking more of a riot in my neighborhood and I’m trying to get my family hidden in woods nearby if the situation comes close to my home. My house is small and I don’t want to get trapped in it.

i had a choke stuck in my 12 gauge i ruined the wrench getting the tube out the barrel is fine and the stuck tube just needed a lil deburring. I’m wondering if there are any heavy duty wrenches for the mossberg 12 gauge in case it ever happens again it shouldn’t i’m putting anti seize next time!!
