which model of the Mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun should i get???? i am going to be using it for home defense and hunting(squirrel, coyotes, deer, birds, etc, probably nothing bigger than a deer). also i would like a nice flashlight and/or scope, but idk which model to buy, i was thinking about the tactical, or persuader/cruiser. I don’t want a wood stock or anything, all synthetic.
if you think i should get the wood, why? and if i do could i put accessories on it?
which MODEL should i get???????
could i add a pistol grip to the model A?
does the model a have any other names?

What would they be?
I would take a pump action, probably mossberg or benelli
Ar-15
kimber 1911
The 1911 has stopping power for conceal carry or home defense
The ar-15 is a fun gun
Mossberg 500 is a hunting gun

I have a Mossberg 500 that holds 6 shells (5 + 1 Chambered). Is that legally acceptable here in the US? I had a friend tell me that I needed to install somebody to limit me to 3 rounds. Is this true? Could the BATF bust down my door and arrest me for having a shotgun, I bought in 1993, that holds 6 rounds?

I’m buying a Mossberg 500 pump shotgun. It will have a 20" barrel and the 8 shot tube, can handle 3" shells. It will be purely for home defense. Hopefully it will be used 1) never, 2) by me, 3) last resort by my wife. For use # 3, I want to be sure that a target in the "general direction" of a threat will be hit. #3 is why I’m moving from my favored Colt .45. I don’t give a #$@& about rebuilding the house … if it’s necessary to kill an intruder, carpentry and dry wall are a small price to pay if the gun gives us the winning hand. Any thoughts on a good load? I used to alternate a slug and bird shot in 3" Magnum form in my Remington 870 when in the home defense mode. That was arrived at by my gut feeling … never any experience, fortunately. Others probably have a more scientific viewpoint. Love to hear it.
Thanks,
Rich
Thanks for the answers guys – good info. I appreciate the comment about a "general direction" aim not being a good concept for even a shot gun. One likely shot is from an upstairs landing through an open foyer to an entrance … 20 ft. or so. Sure you have to aim, but the odds of a 2 or 3 inch group sure beats the footprint of a .45 ACP, under stress and low light. I think I’m leaning toward 2 3/4 with buckshot. Thoughts on locking mount systems? There’s another recent thread on the topic, but how about a 12v police cruiser lock (lots for sale on eBay) with a cipher pad and a combo you know by tactile feel? I’m more concerned about child safety than theft – If a guy had the time to crow bar it off the studs, it’s his … I just want family safety.

OK. i recently asked about hunting black bear, and earlier tonight i bought a mossberg 500 12 gauge pump action shotgun to get my shot better. If i dont get a better shotgun, using the mossberg I now have with a 3" slug shell, would you say i have a decent chance at actually taking down a bear? Please do not answer this unless you have experience hunting bear.

I have been looking into getting a 12 gauge shotgun for home defense. I want to say this was on a mossberg 500 tactcal shotgun i saw. They had it on a 6 shot capacity and a 9 shot capacity. Almost certain it was called a speed feed. In the picture it shows that you can store i beleive it was 4 extra shotgun shells in the handle frame of the shutgun just in front of i guess it would be the stock. Sorry dont know much about shotguns so probably just making these terms up. If anyone understands what i am talking about and can please explain to me how the speed feed works. Is it just a storage area to hold the extra shells? Or is that where it feeds the shells up into the shotgun? I am confused because it says there are 6 and 9 shot capacity. Is that including the extra shells in the speed feed or is it 6 and 9 shot capacity for the stock plus what you have in the speed feed?
use the link.

Its the one in the 2nd row from the top 4 from the left its the mossberg. 590A1

I am seriously thinking about the Mossberg 500, I’ve heard great things, and it’s a great price. I know you only have to be 18 to buy a shotgun where I live (MD), but are there exceptions? Can I buy this?
Also, I’ve looked all over and I can’t find a list of non-assault rifles.
Can anyone provide such a list?

I have been looking at the remington 870 express super mag. Do I really need something that big or can I go smaller and which 870 would be recommended
I am also looking at the Mossberg 500. I would like one that comes with at least a couple chokes and the deer barrel

I’m somewhat confused about this. I know some do shoot more than one BB but I didn’t know about the mossberg 500 or how to load it.

Thinking about a H&R single shot but if I can get a good pump for like 50 more $ then I’ll do it. Looking for mainly customization. I know that a Mossberg 500 is very customizable but its a little bit to pricey.

I read up on it a little and they tell me it is identical to the mossberg 500. I do not own a mossberg 500 but I was wondering if the trigger group on the 500 is plastic just like on my 600at. Also I am having trouble getting the slide and magazine tube any information on that would be nice to.

I just bought a mossberg 500 12 gauge shotgun deer field combo when I put the rifle barrel on I noticed there were some imperfections at the end of the barrel around the edge of the crown not going into the barrel just around the edges of the crown is this gonn affect the accuracy of the gun or should I just ignore the marks thanks…..Matt

Hello, Is a 2-7X32 Nikon Prostaff a good scope for deer hunting with a 12gauge Mossberg 500 with a fully rifled slug barrel? Will this scope hold up to the recoil? Is it too much power for slug hunting? Is there any better scopes for around 0?
I know I don’t need a scope for deer hunting, but I want and prefer using a scope!
Thanks

I have a Mossberg 500 12ga Field model, 28".
The barrel says "chambered for 2 3/4 and 3 in. shells"
The manual says "designed for 2-3/4" and 3" magnum shells within gauge"
In other words, no mention of rifled slugs. The manual says "designed for … shells and rifled slugs" only for models 535.
Does it mean that 500 Field models do not handle rifled slugs?
I have not removed the choke already in the barrel, but the extra two chokes that came with the shotgun are: Full, and Imp. Cyl.
