hi, im looking into buying a Mossberg 500 shotgun sometime soon, and i need some help…. i was thinking about getting the 12 ga. model, however, i started to think more and more about getting the 20 ga. when this past weekend i went out shooting skeet and shot about 75-100 shells through a 20. and my should was somewhat sore, and i thought if i get a 12 it would be too much recoil. now i don’t know which gauge to buy. i would mostly be shooting skeet, hunting small game/ possibly birds, and probably deer eventually. which gauge should i get, 12 or 20 and why??? please help
by the way… i am 15 years old and about 120 lbs. im not sure of my height, probably around 5′… 5-6" tall.
thank you all for your answers. i was just wondering because i don’t know how much a recoil pad would work, but i am now pretty sure i will get the 12. also when i go hunting squirrel and such i have a single shot 20 ga if carrying around a 12 gets to be too much work. thanks again.

The Orion shells fit with minor trimming of the shell’s plastic edge and extract the same as other 12ga loads…
In a pinch, for survival reasons or temporary illumination, could you fire the flare without damaging your shotgun?
Please do not answer unless you have experience in this matter. Results with, "Guns are bad." = reports to Yahoo as abuse/stupidity. Thanks.

I recently purchased a mossberg 500 shotgun and went to load it for the first time. The round tube will only accept qty 2 of 2-3/4" shells. Im no dummy so I hope its not me… on shell goes in fine, second goes in fine, and 3rd simply stops after I depressing in the other two shells maybe 1/2". Anyone have any quick fixes?
Its something to do with the shell tube… even knowing it cant be anything else… I still disassembled it down to nothing and reassembled it, and action works fine, it chambers and ejects the two shells I could load just fine too…

The shells are a for a 410 shotgun and I have both slugs and birdshot and I would like to know the safest way to get the gunpowder out intact.
do you mean just take a knife and cut it in half above the metal?

Hi, I bought a new mossberg 500 shotgun from big 5, its the synthetic combo 500 pump action. I see that the barell does not have threads at the muzzle for interchangeable chokes, but the barell is stamped modified barell, what does this mean? Also, can I fire the cheap federal 100pack shells?

I dont know a lot about shotguns. I have a Benelli Nova pump. Can I use a steel shot in this gun? It says on the box of shells to make sure the gun is designed for steel shot. How do I know if it is or not, also what is a better name to use. I bought Winchester Xpert HI-VELOCITY 3" steel shot. All help welcome.Thanks.

My great grandfather left my dad a double barrel shotgun that has been sitting in our attic since he got it. My dad has no interest in it and refuses to do anything to find out its make or what kind of shells it takes. I have searched all over it for some form of identifying it, a serial number, a manufacturers logo or whatever and I cant find anything. It is a break action double barrel but thats all I know,

I really like the Remington 870 marine magnum. In all the reviews ive seen it is a great shotgun. What shotgun do you think would be the best choice for a person looking for a Remington 870. Also what ammo would be good for target shooting and home defense. Is its shells 2 3/4 and 3?

I want a Mossberg Tactical Persuader just like this for Home Defence and to drive around with in my truck but to be safe I came here first. I’m only 18 years old so I want to know if it’s legal for me to have this gun in my truck, If so can it be in Plain View? or must it be under a seat? If cops ever ask me do I have a weapon I want to be able to say Yes it’s under the seat, or for them to be able to see it laying right on the front seat. 5 star best answer.
Is this http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff313/dlchan/DSC02203-DLCsMossberg500PersuaderwA.jpg considered a long gun?
Can I have gun and Shells separate? In my truck?

i would like to know how come i can not add any shells in the magazine tube, while the bolt is forward and the trigger has not been set, am i doing something wrong…..or its not supposed to work like that….
but it works fine when i load one shell in the chamber, and then i push up on the carrier latch to load the shells in the magazine tube…..
and also one more thing, when i want to unload the shells from the shotgun, and i pull back on the bolt, the bolt all the way back, the bolt doesnt go forward automatically, but if i pull it back a certain distance it goes forward and loads a shell, until there are no more shells…
When i meant trigger not set, i meant to say that i did not pull back on the bolt and let it go therefore the hammer would be cocked and ready to fire…..
that word **** is c o c k e d……dont know why they think its bad………

Im 90% sure im going to get that gun but i just wanted to hear some comments about it. I am a avid duck and dove hunter down in south texas and i shoot easily 1000 shells in one month 8 months out of the year. I also shoot the crap out pigs. I also wanted to know is the 11-87 really as bad as reviews say on the computer.
