Should i get the Remington 870 or the 887?

April 6th, 2011 by eranio

Im looking the Remington 870 Magnum with a synthetic stock. However i recently noticed the 887, it has the same chamber, 3 1/2, same barrel length, 28”, and same stock. The 887 costs 20$ more than the 870 and the 887 looks kinda like the Benelli Nova. Is there a real difference between the 870 and the 887?

About to buy a shotgun from academy. Anyone heard anything about this specific shotgun?

January 10th, 2011 by eranio

H&R PROTECTOR HOME DEFENSE SHOTGUN
18.5" Barrel
5 round capacity
Chambers 2 3/4" and 3" loads
Black synthetic stock with recoil pad and swivel studs

http://www.academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/outdoors/hunting/shotguns&start=0&selectedSKU=0350-02021-5180

This looks like a decent shotgun for home defense. I’ve looked in Pawn Shops, and I can’t find anything that would be decent for home defense. Mostly long and bulky guns, and their too much money. Does this look like a decent gun? I’m just trying to get people’s opinions.

I’ve also checked all the WalMart’s around my area and none of them sell guns.

I don’t want to buy a gun that’s going to fall apart on me, I just want something that I can throw in my closet if I need to use it in case of a home invasion, and something I can take to my Grandpas lakehouse in the woods every 2 years or so.

Thanks guys! Btw, is that gun a 12 gauge? How do I tell? By the chambers size?
Is H&R a good brand?
What type of shells should I buy for it that would be good for home defense?
If I could afford anymore I’d go with a remington or a mossberg, just don’t have the cash. I’m 21 and in college.
What specifically do I look for when buying shells? How do I know something is the size I’m looking for.

http://academy.com/index.php?page=content&target=products/outdoors/hunting/shotgun_ammunition

Those are the only ones that are offered at academy, would any of those be good or would it be better to get them from another shop?
Also, out of those 3 different types of shells from academy which would be the best for my needs.

Shotgun for Summer, and everything else, Mossberg vs Remington and other?

August 22nd, 2010 by eranio

I’m thinking about getting a new/ good condition shotgun over the Summer, shotguns are the one thing me and my father don’t have many of, maybe only 3 or more, the ones I know of are a double barrel break action 20 gauge, a long barreled goose 12 gauge and one other which I’ve forgotten what it was. So I’ve decided by the end of Summer I should pick one up. I want something for just walking around in the woods, maybe home defense and SHTF "hey, you never know" I want a pump action, synthetic stock to start with, 12 gauge shotgun, I’ve looked at the Mossberg 500 and Rem 870 and I know there’s a lot of debates over them, and I’m not asking for that, just what you guys think of them, I want something to that has a lot of capacity, I’m not much of a shotgun man so I know every little about models, I also want one with out an internal choke so I can shoot slugs out of it, but possibly an adapter at the end to install one. And if any of you could give me almost a full review of any guns that might suit my needs would be amazing. Sorry if anything may sound novice level but like I said, I’m not a shotgun man, I just learned how a choke worked a few days ago. Thanks. Price isn’t a major deal but let’s try to keep it as low as possible.
I looked on Gunbroker and it looks like I’d be paying from 0-0 for a Mossberg 500
Yes I know this question has been brought up so much, too bad, but I’m not asking Vs of the two, just your thoughts and/or any other models, I’m not asking for self def so relax, but a high cab, pump action, reliable shotgun.
With as much capacity as I can possibly get out of a pump action, tube feed shotgun.
I think I’m leaning towards the Mossberg 500 or 590, but ammo’s a b!@#$ so I’ll have to find the best deal I can.

Does anyone know what kind of Bipod will fit a Benelli R1 rifle?

August 15th, 2010 by eranio

Do they make one that will fit the gun without any modifications? My gun is the synthetic stock.
The front stud on this gun is not on the bottom of the fore grip like most, it is at the tip of the fore grip pointing in the same direction as the barrel. I haven’t found a bipod that will fit this style, if u know of one, please let me know the exact product, not just a link to ones that don’t fit, thanks.

Is the Benelli Nova Tactical 12 ga pump a decent shotgun?

March 30th, 2010 by eranio

I sold my Remington 870 to my nephew, and was highly considering using the money I got for it, and buying this shotgun. It has a black synthetic stock and pistol grip, it chambers 2 3/4", 3", and 3 1/2". It has an 18.5" barrel with a total length of 40", weighs 7.8 lbs, and holds 4 + 1.
Can anybody give me their opinion of this gun please?

I plan to use this for home defense, and plan to use 3 1/2" 00 buck, which has 18 pellets per shot.
How much more recoil will this have compared to the usual 2 3/4" or 3" 00 buck shot?
This is the gun I’m talking about:

12 gauge shotgun needed?

February 25th, 2010 by eranio

Ok, I have been looking for a 12 gauge shotgun for a while. I new Wal-Mart had a mossberg 12 gauge pump action for 0, so i have been saving for it. just recently they got new supply of mossberg Maverick 88′s I’m not sure if its the same gun i saw 3 weeks ago, but its the same price so… I’m looking for a shotgun for protection and target practice, not hunting so much. the maverick is a great gun but has a 28" long barrel! I was looking for something shorter like 18-20" for around the same price and more or less the same gun. also I like the synthetic stock and the blued metal (the whole gun is the same color) but this is not a must. Does anyone have any suggestions on a cheap reliable 12 gauge shotgun? I’ve tried gunbroker.com but either the cheaper ones are 20 gauges or the price I’m looking for are for the tactical/assault kind of shotgun. Thanks

Which of these 12 gauge shotguns is the best for home defense?

February 11th, 2010 by eranio

Yesterday, I asked about the best shotgun for home defense. Most people said that they used 12 gauge shotguns (even though other kinds are also sufficient). The top recommendations are the mossberg 500, remington 870, and the mossberg 590 (some other people mentioned it). Now that I’ve narrowed down my choices, which of these would you pick? I don’t want a double-barrel, only a single barrel. I would also want to get one made from the most durable material (preferably black synthetic stock). Before I go out and buy one, does anyone want to throw their 2 cents in? If you want to recommend one of those that I listed, which specific version should I get? I want one with a shorter barrel.
I know that, but I still want to pick out a specific model. I already know that 12 gauge can kick butt.
What about the 870 marine magnum?

Firearms – how to remove spray paint?

January 30th, 2010 by eranio

I just bought a used shotgun, and it has green spray paint in areas.

The paint is on the reciever, and on the synthetic stock.

How do I remove the paint without causing damage, primarily without affecting the bluing ?

What’s a good, inexpensive pump shotgun, used for target shooting primarily?

November 22nd, 2009 by eranio

I would prefer synthetic stock, 12ga, 28" barrel…might keep under the bed if a shorter barrel option is available
