taking the barrel off an old “ranger” double barrel shotgun?
i opened up an old ranger double barrel shotgun and then it wouldn’t close after that i can see two pieces in the bottom of the gun that are making contact when i try to close it, it looks like the bottom piece is actaully supposed to be on top of the piece that is now on top, i believe the only way to get it in the right spot again is the take the barrel off and then allign them correctly again, so how am i supposed to get the barrel off?

Your best solution is to take it to a gunsmith. Typical method of disassembly is to remove the fore stock with the action closed then open the action and remove the barrels. Since you can’t close it you have a problem. Maybe some WD 40 will help, the action may just be stuck.

The forestock can easily be removed with the action open
Just hold it over a bed or sofa because it will fall out of your hands unless you have three
Older shotgun have a habit of the release ever not locking into place
Make sure it is all the way to the right
The only thing I can think of that you would be seeing would be the locking mechanism
There really no other moving parts
There is a spring loaded pin that holds the bottom of the barrel assembly in place
The spring could have broken or gotten stuck
Never use WD40 on a gun
It will gum up and varnish and cause more problems in the future

most old shotguns had one of two ways to remove the foreend to break the firearm down. One, the foregrip is help with spring tension. Just pull down on the very front of the forearm (away from the barrel) and it should pop off, then rotate the barrels forward and lift up and away from the receiver. Or, they are held by a lever or screw. This is usually located in the center of the forend, if a lever, just pull it down and remove the forend, if it has a screw, obviously you remove the screw and continue as above.
shoot safe.
