Mossberg 590 – The best…….

Although the 870 has its advantages it is not a good shotgun to have in a gun fight… Here are the technical details why….
http://jth8260.tripod.com/870.html
Benelli? – Accurate?… tactical shotguns commonly use buckshot so accuracy is not an issue at all… The Benelli M4 is also over $1500 and it is a semi-auto… Semi-autos are not to be trusted when the poop hits the fan… The Benelli M4 is surely a nice shotgun but many will argue that a 1 in a 100 chance it jambs in a gunfight is enough to where you should not trust your life with one…..
Pump shotguns are the most reliable shotgun to own for defense….
Trust me – I have owned and tried them all…. Here are just a few of my tactical shotguns in my collection….. (yes I have 870′s too)

Tactical?… Most of that stuff is nonsense…. Only get a Mossberg 500 or 590… And at all costs avoid the ones with a pistol grip… Get one with a regular stock.. the pistol grip interferes with the slide release switch on these Mossbergs… One the rare occasion you get a jamb this will slow you down a few seconds to clear it which may cost you your life in a gun fight…. With a regular stock you do not have to remove your finger from the trigger to actuate the slide release to clear a fail to fire….
Keep it simple — One of these Mossbergs is all you will need…..

Avoid tactical nonsense shotguns with pistol grips, lazer pointers, scopes or red dot sights, flashlights, pistol grips, collapsible stocks, air conditiong, cruise control and tilt… That stuff will just getin the way and could get you killed… When 3 armed invaders are jumping thru your front window the last thing you should be doing is fumbling around with the laser pointer switch….

I like the Mossberg 500 for the tang mounted safety, and the ease of loading.

benelli is a more top of line brand so it would be better than and its semi auto. the mossberg and reminton are about the same its all an opinion. benelli m4 would be good for entering and clearing rooms in a building. as will the others but the semi auto will just make it a little more responsive. i personally love my benelli supernova

Benelli is a lot fancier–looks great, works great. M.B. and Rem both very reliable, more accessories, but not as fancy as the Ben. For me, if I had to choose between them, I’d take the one with the greatest mag capacity.

Benelli’s M4 has, in my opinion, a superior operating system, the ARGO (automatically regulated gas operated). Dave’s Metal Works sells a one piece tube, which gives you 7+1 capacity with 2-3/4" shells. While any shotgun you buy is only as accurate as the shooter, the Benelli (at 1600 bucks) is semi auto, handles any load you feed it, and is rock solid. I own one. I also have an old High Standard K20-6 5+ 1 pump "riot" gun in 12 gauge. I paid 150 bucks for it, and it works perfectly. I wouldn’t want to stand in front of any of your choices. I bought the Benelli because the M4 is currently in service in Iraq, its rugged, and for home defense, I want a proven performer.

The Mossberg 590 is also in military service, and many if not most US police departments use the Remington. Any of them should suit your needs. Flip a coin.

I think semi-autos should be left to bird hunting and skeet shooting. Pump shotguns are inherently more reliable, period. This is why the Mossberg 500 has been the most popular choice among military special operators for decades.
There is virtually no difference in accuracy among any of these, so it all boils down to personal preference.
